DOL Audits Can Expose Illegal Cost Shifting In Employee Benefit Plans
Your employee benefit plan might be hiding a problem. The payments made by your employees for optional insurance benefits might -- without your knowledge -- be used to subsidize or reduce your cost for other insurance benefits. If this problem is found during an audit by the Department of Labor (DOL), monetary penalties could be significant. DOL investigations are focused on fiduciary breaches and issues affecting the fair treatment of participants in the plans. Strauss Troy's "Justice League" dominated the 18th annual Cincinnati Corporate Olympics on Fountain Square this summer. "We came in 1st place in 5 of the 6 events; only being bested by Macy's that came in 1st place in 6 of 6. We took home the Silver Medal (2nd place out of 22 teams)," said Team Captain Attorney Brian O'Connell. "Our big weak spot was Corn Hole (aka the Sales Pitch). The team will be carefully studying the films Monday morning to see how we can improve in this event next year.
