Dear Members:
Back To Business.
Time for the kick-off of the 2016-2017 operating year. It's the tradition of the affiliate president to pen the monthly letter to our membership and it is something I both anticipate and fear.
I enjoy the opportunity to send a message to all members and hope it relevant and meaningful. But I dread having to choose a topic and then compose a letter not knowing if my choice was correct and what challenges will be presented once it is read. It's an honest description of the challenges I face in just this one task. But we all face challenges throughout our personal and professional lives. I hope to use this letter as an opportunity to discuss both the challenges and especially the opportunities of our profession.
When I think of an something impacting our lives, I think about technology. Technology is one of several factors impacting business practices every day. One the one hand, its making companies more efficient which is an opportunity but it presents a challenge to the traditional workflows many of us are accustomed to each day. The goal of our affiliate leadership is to augment the opportunities for our members for the upcoming year and by discussing relevant topics and fostering meaningful discussions. I also expect to confront our many other challenges. These include a more demanding job market, highlighting the worth of our professional relevance and contribution to the bottom line, and keeping up with skillsets we all need to stay relevant.
We will be having meetings, a conference, numerous webinars and sourcing meetings this year and I am hopeful to get meet as many members as possible. And as we always do, each year we present a slate of offerings in our professional development program which remain unrivaled amongst our affiliate organizations. These classes are affordable, relevant and a great way to keep the skillsets sharp and current. Take advantage of them if you can and be involved in all aspects of our affiliate.
I look forward to a great year and I thank you for the opportunity to serve as your affiliate president.

I have some exciting news to share with you. I was recently selected to serve on the newly formed ISM National Affiliate Advisory Council. This Council was created to help facilitate an ongoing dialogue between ISM National and its U.S. affiliates. We are focusing on affiliate growth and vitality by building a strong peer-to-peer network, where affiliate leaders can share best practices and ultimately provide greater value to our members.
Our goals include driving membership and attracting new emerging professionals that are pursuing careers in supply chain management. By creating this forum for commun
ication we look to increase synergies between th
e affiliates and ISM National, align on our membership needs, our educational offerings and be a stronger resource for all.
Look for the exciting meetings and events we have planned as we kick off the 2016-2017 membership year. As a member o
f ISM-New York you will be able to better leverage your career through professional development and the power of networking. You will meet with emerging and experienced procurement and supply chain professionals and the companies they represent.
