At Stony Brook’s radar observatory, SoMAS Professor Pavlos Kollias, center/back, and colleagues use new radar technologies to take an “MRI” of clouds to better forecast weather. The emerging technologies enable researchers to determine what happens inside clouds and define their components to not only forecast precipitation but determine more exact amounts of precipitation accumulations and where they would occur.
