IUTC HOSTS 2011 IU DANCE MARATHON
Due to the fire in HPER's Wildermuth Gym this summer, the IU Tennis Center proudly hosts this year's IU Dance Marathon event November 4-6, 2011. Set up begins November 3rd.
The facility is not available November 3 (beginning at noon) through November 6. IUDM is the nation's 2nd largest student-run philanthropic organization! IUDM works year round to raise money for Riley Hospital for Children in Indianapolis, culminating the year in a 36 hour dance marathon. Since 1991, IUDM has raised more than $10.1 million for the kids at Riley. For more information about the IU Dance Marathon, visit their website.

SCHNEIDER SIZZLED THIS SUMMER

#1 Singles and Doubles 16 and Under Boys
|
Bloomington's Ronnie Schneider had an amazing summer on the court. He ends the year as the #1 ranked junior in the nation in the Boys 16 and under division in both singles and doubles. Below are his results from the top tournaments he played this summer.
2nd PLACE
Easter Bowl (Rancho Mirage, CA)
1st PLACE in Doubles
3rd PLACE in Singles
National Clay Court Championships (Delray Beach, FL)
1st PLACE in Singles and Doubles
Midwest Closed Championships (Indianapolis, IN)

National Championships (Kalamazoo, MI)
Ronnie's biggest wins of the year are the Boys 16 and under singles and doubles titles at the USTA National Championships in Kalamazoo, Michigan in August. This is the most prestigious junior tournament in the United States. His win solidified his national #1 USTA singles and doubles rankings for the year and also earned him entry into the US Junior Open Singles and Doubles main draw.
Hats off to Ronnie for all of the hard work and dedication he has put in thus far. The entire Bloomington tennis community is proud to support you! Keep up the great work!

TRAVEL TEAM UPDATE
The Ladies' Central Indiana Indoor Tennis League (CWITL) 2011/2012 season officially kicked off on Sept 21st. We are happy to announce the Tennis Center sponsors five teams this year (Ladies C-1, C-2, C-3, B-2 and Q-1 teams).
Our ladies will play home matches at the IU Tennis Center beginning at 10am until 1 pm and away matches in and around the Indianapolis area. All of the away matches begin at 11am and end at 2pm.
Stop by the Tennis Center to help support our ladies. See our programming calendars for home match dates.

STAFF NEWS
USTA High Performance Certification
Chris Chopra was selected to attend the USTA High Performance Certification in Memphis, Tennessee October 20-22nd. This training is considered by many to be one of the highest-quality coach's experiences in the world. Twenty-three top USPTA and PTR coaches were selected by the USTA for this training. Coaches that complete the certification will benefit from on-going training as well as being a part of the USTA High Performance coaches network.
USPTA Mid-Year Forum
Chris Chopra attended the USPTA Mid-Year Forum in Cincinnati August 18th and 19th during the ATP/WTA Masters series event. Chris attended USPTA Midwest Board Meetings and also presented some of his favorite drills alongside other USPTA State Presidents during the event.
Mike Honored at the Western & Southern Open
On August 17, Mike O'Connell, Head Tennis Professional, along with six other Tennis Professionals from around the Midwest, including this year's inductee, Mike Lange, were honored for being inducted into the Midwest Hall of Fame. The ceremony took place on center court! Congratulations to Mike for his continued success and demonstration of excellence!
Welcome New Instructor
Ekaterina Kapadalova (Katya) was recently hired as a Staff Assistant and Control Center employee. Katya is from Yarolavvi, Russia. She graduated from IU this past summer with a degree in Sports Management.
Katya was a member of the IU Women's Tennis Team from 2007/2011, and named player of the week in the Big Ten Conference. She is also an SAAC representative. SAAC is an NCAA sponsored committee of student-athletes who are committed to serving and providing opportunities for the student-athlete at IU.
Katya is also a member of ALPHA BETA Honorary Reception which recognizes those student athletes who have earned a minimum 3.2 GPA. She recently completed a 16 week internship at the IU Tennis Center where she gained valuable experience in the tennis industry.
Welcome aboard, Katya! We're happy to have you!

MIKE O'CONNELL TENNIS SCHOLARSHIP
The IU Tennis Center offers any junior (18 years or younger) the opportunity to receive a financial scholarship (amount determined by the scholarship committee) which can be applied toward tennis instruction, junior membership, or court time. Scholarship monies expire one year from the date in which applicants receive them.
If you are interested in making a donation to the Mike O'Connell Tennis Scholarship fund, send your check, made payable to the Indiana University Foundation and include a short note explaining that the funds should be placed in the "HPER Dean's unrestricted account for the purpose of supporting the IU Tennis Center." The account number is 38-H004-23-6.

BALL MACHINE PASSES
A ball machine pass entitles members to unlimited ball machine usage for an entire year! This is an incredible deal and a perfect way to keep up your game. Single user passes are $150. We now offer a Household Ball Machine Pass, good for 1 year of unlimited usage for guardian(s) and children under 18 within your household. The cost is $300. See Control Center for more information.
TRAVEL TEAM AND VARSITY MATCHES
Come support our Ladies Travel and Varsity teams during their home matches at the IUTC. Free admission. See calendar on our Web site for schedule.
FREE BALL MACHINE RENTAL
Use the ball machine at no cost by scheduling a 30 minute reservation in between two already scheduled programs/reservations. Regular court fees apply. Perfect opportunity for a practice session on a particular shot.
PRIVATE, SEMI-PRIVATE, & GROUP LESSONS
Interested in private, semi-private, or group lessons? Leave your information for the Head Pro and we will try our best to set you up with one of our instructors. Be aware that we do have a small waiting list. |
All private, semi-private and group lessons must be canceled at least 24 hours in advance to avoid being charged. All informal court reservations must be canceled at least 3 hours in advance to avoid being charged. PCT must be canceled 24 hours in advance in order to bank your time.
