Dr. Chuck Lemme New AVMA District Director
The votes are in!  

It was announced on April 1 that Dr. Chuck Lemme of Cedar Rapids won a seat on the AVMA Board of Directors representing District 7.  District 7 includes the states of Iowa, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, and South Dakota. Dr. Lemme will serve a six year term from 2018 - 2024.

Dr. Lemme expressed his gratitude  to the IVMA membership, "I am excited about the opportunity to continue to serve the veterinarians of Iowa as a member of the AVMA Board of Directors.  I would like to thank all of you for your support in the election and a big thank you to the IVMA officers, Board of Directors and the great IVMA staff for all the help they gave me during the campaign.  I couldn't have done it without all of you, " he said.

Kramer-Marks Lecture Offered at ISU CVM
ISU-IVS Partners in Progress CE Event
 
The Lloyd Veterinary Medical Center at Iowa State University is co-sponsoring a free continuing education event with Iowa Veterinary Specialties on Wednesday, April 11, at the Des Moines Botanical Center.

"Partners in Progress CE Event" will be held from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. that day with a free breakfast served at 7:30 a.m. The free lunch will feature a keynote address by Dr. Stephanie West, the newly-hired director of hospital operations at the Lloyd Veterinary Medical Center. 

The event will include 21 continuing education lectures from 14 different speakers including many from the Lloyd Veterinary Medical Center in Iowa State's College of Veterinary Medicine.

ISU Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory Video
The ISU Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory has produced a video for the public about the role and impact of the VDL. Please share this four-minute, informative video with your friends, family and especially your Iowa Legislator to show the importance the ISU VDL has on the safety of the food we eat.

Nominations Sought for IVMA Executive Board
Are you or someone you know interested in giving back to the veterinary profession? The IVMA is seeking nominations for two-year terms on the Executive Board. The Executive Board is made up of 22 dedicated veterinarians from 20 districts in Iowa. You may only nominate someone from your own district.

This year elections will be held for even numbered districts. Odd numbered districts will be up for reelection in 2019.

Districts are determined by member's home address, not clinic/work location.

Spring Clean-up at Living History Farms
Spend a few hours on the farm on Wednesday, April 25 joining IVMA officers and members to help clean up the Heck Veterinary Infirmary at the 1875 Town of Walnut Hill at Living History Farms in Urbandale. Volunteers will spend 2-3 hours sprucing up the interior and exterior of the historic veterinary clinic. Lunch will be provided. Become the Link between the IVMA and Recent Graduates
  Applications are now being accepted to become an Emerging Leader Liaison to the Administrative Committee (ELL ) for the IVMA.  The purpose of this position is to provide a link and build relationships between recent veterinary school graduates and the IVMA.  This position is open to any IVMA member who has graduated from veterinary school within the last 7 years.

The Emerging Leader Liaison will attend select meetings and events. As compensation, the ELL will receive a one year IVMA membership, all travel expenses to attend meetings, and paid registration to some veterinary conferences.
