New Veterinarians Can Attend AVMA Convention for Free!
New veterinary school graduates qualify for one complimentary registration to AVMA Convention, to be used any time within five years of graduation. This is in addition to any AVMA Conventions you may have attended while still in veterinary school. That means if you graduated between 2012 and 2016 and haven't used your free registration offer at a previous AVMA Convention, you can attend this year's conference absolutely free!

If you are a 2012 graduate and haven't already taken advantage of this benefit, this is your last year to do so. Head over to avmaconvention.org now so you don't miss out on this great benefit!
Leaders of the Pack - Women in Veterinary Leadership Book
A book written about women in veterinary leadership has a connection to Iowa State University and the IVMA.

The book titled, "Leaders of the Pack: Women and the Future of Veterinary Medicine," was written by the founders of the Women's Veterinary Leadership Development Initiative: Julie Kimble, CEO of Greater Good Leadership and the late Dr. Donald F. Smith, dean emeritus of Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine.

In doing research for the book, Dr. Smith interviewed former IVMA Executive Director and current Director of Hospital Operations at the Iowa State University Lloyd Veterinary Medical Center, Dr. Tom Johnson about how Iowa State University CVM and the IVMA have excelled in promoting women in veterinary leadership roles. Dr. Smith wrote an article on the subject that was published in the January 2014 IVMA Update.

The book, which explores key themes in leadership and highlights women in veterinary medicine is available from Purdue University Press.
Animal Health in the Heartland Symposium

NOTE: In the May 30 IVMA Communiqué, the date for this event was incorrect.  The correct date is July 18-19.
We apologize for this error.

The Iowa Biotechnology Association (IowaBio) and Bio Nebraska Life Sciences Association (Bio Nebraska) are proud to announce the second annual
Animal Health In t he Heartland: Ensuring A Safe Food Supply symposium July 18-19 at Iowa State University.

Recent outbreaks of Avian Influenza (AIV) and Porcine Epidemic Diarrhea Virus (PEDV) have had serious consequences in our Heartland region, and disease in our livestock herds poses significant threats to our food supply. The Ensuring A Safe Food Supply symposium promises to offer key federal, state and industry leaders the opportunity to discuss solutions for animal health preparedness.
