IVT YACHT SALES NEWSLETTER

Fall is in the air...but not the water.

The air is getting a bit cooler but the effects of El Nino can still be felt very strongly locally. Water temperatures up and down the San Diego coastal beaches are 70-73 degrees and its almost November and Mexico saw it strongest hurricane ever in October (and thankfully there were very few injuries)!

As many of your know, Fall is a great time to go boating in Southern California. Crowds are lights and winds are good. With this warm water, we may even be catching Thanksgiving tuna!

I hope you enjoy the newsletter and please contact me anytime if I can help you with your boating dreams!

Best wishes,

Ian Van Tuyl

CAR  OF THE MONTH

2005 Porsche Carrera GT

The development of the Carrera GT can be traced back to the 911 GT1 and LMP1-98 racing cars. Due in part to the FIA and ACO rule changes in 1998, both designs had ended. Porsche at the time had planned on a new Le Mans prototype for 1999. The car was initially intended to use a turbocharged flat-6, but was later redesigned to use a new V10 engine, pushing the project back to planned completion in 2000. The V10 was a unit secretly built by Porsche for the Footwork Formula One team in 1992, but later shelved. The engine was resurrected for the Le Mans prototype and increased in size to 5.7 litres. The project was canceled after two days of testing for the first car, in mid-1999, mostly due to Porsche's wish to build the Cayenne SUV with involvement from Volkswagen and Audi, thus requiring engineering expertise to be pulled from the motorsports division. It was also speculated that VW-Audi chairman Ferdinand Piƫch wanted Audi's new Le Mans Prototype, the Audi R8 not to face competition from Porsche in 2004.

SAN DIEGO - One of the most popular boating areas in San Diego is primed to receive an upgraded fishing pier, complete with a new boat dock and gangway.

San Diego's Board of Port Commissioners voted on Oct. 6 to approve a contract for $493,500 to remove a concrete floating dock and switchback gangway at Shelter Island and install a new aluminum-framed floating dock with a single gangway in its place. The new dock would, according to port staff, service anyone aboard a small vessel and seeks to access the Shelter Island Fishing Pier.

"The project will restore and improve the function and service of the boat dock," port staff stated in a report to commissioners.
