Representatives from the

American Production & Inventory Control Society (APICS) recently honored the Library as their 2015 Company of the Year. APICS utilized one of the Library's meetings rooms to conduct an educational course.

 

The trophy can be seen on the shelf behind the Circulation Desk.

Donate your used items for the FRIENDS' huge fall sale and their Book Nook sale area in the Library.
 

 

Drop them off at 30 Main Street (office building across from Price Rite - look for Newtown Savings Bank.) Volunteers will help unload your car!

Please do not bring: Encyclopedias, VHS tapes, Reader's Digest Condensed books, text books older than 3 years, computer books older than 2 years, medical or business books older than 5 years, magazines, badly damaged books, or textbooks with highlighting, writing, or underlining.

Items are tax deductible as permissible by law.  Thank You!

The Revolutionary War:

Educational Series


 

Embark on a jaunt to the past through this educational video seminar series created through Open Yale Courses (OYC). The seminars are conducted by historian, author, and Yale University Professor Joanne B. Freeman. If you like history, we think you'll love this well researched, 25-part program series that explores in great depth the Revolutionary War period. Programs will be held at the Danbury Library (L) and the Danbury Museum, 43 Main Street. (M)

We're adding in a bit of fun! At the first program you attend, pick up a "Passport to the Past" booklet and get it stamped. Bring it to each of the programs you attend for additional stamps. If you attend at least 10 of the seminars and you have at least 10 stamps in your "Passport", you will be invited to a special free event at the historic Rider House. Costumed reenactors will serve light, period appropriate refreshments and tours will be provided of the house.

Show off your creative side. Enter the Superhero Art Contest! Starting on Tuesday July 14th, stop by the Jr. Services Desk to register and pick up a blank template to begin designing your very own superhero.

Award-winning syndicated cartoonist Jerry Craft will share his experiences as a professional cartoonist and illustrator. He'll show you the secrets behind creating his comic strips and help you to create your own.

CosPlay AND HERO TRIVIA

Tuesday, July 28        3:30 - 4:30p.m.

Dress up as your favorite comic book or graphic novel character. Participants will vote for the "most creative" and the "most difficult" costumes. We'll play a couple of rounds of Hero Trivia, so brush up on your knowledge of Manga and American Graphic Novels. Prizes for the costume and trivia winners!

COOL OFF WITH A MOVIE

Tuesday, August 4       3:30 - 5:45p.m.

Watch one of Marvel's best movies (PG13).

Enjoy the movie, a snack and the air conditioning!

Mayor Boughton's
Reading Challenge
For grades 1 - 8
 

Students entering grades 1-5 who read at least

one (1) hour a week and kids in grades 6 - 8 who read at least two (2) hours during each of the seven (7) weeks will become an official Mayor Boughton SUPERHERO Reader!  These super readers will receive an invitation to join the Mayor at an exclusive recognition event at City Hall in August.

The Reading Is Fundamental (RIF) and Macy's "Be Book Smart" Campaign is being conducted through July 12. Stop by Macy's and purchase a "Be Book Smart" coupon for $3 to provide a book for a child and receive $10 off* your purchase of $30 PLUS 20% or 15% off* storewide.  

 

100% of every donation benefits RIF, the largest children's literacy nonprofit in the U.S.  Your donation will result in new books donated to the Danbury Library's Junior Department. The library has already received over 1,700 books through the generosity of this program. This year, every child who registers for the Super Power Readers Club will select a new book to keep.(while supplies last.)
