Illinois Office of Tourism Announced Record 2017 Visitor Spending
Governor Rauner and Illinois Office of Tourism Director Cory Jobe announce that visitors spent a record-breaking $39.5 billion in Illinois in 2017 , according to the U.S. Travel Association. That’s an increase of $1.1 billion or 3% from 2016.

DCCVB Executive Director Debbie Armstrong attended the press conference in Springfield while attending the Illinois Council of Convention & Visitor Bureaus conference in May. The county breakdown, including that for DeKalb County, should be announced later this summer.

DeKalb County Barn Quilt Trail

The movement that started in Ohio has taken root in DeKalb County.

As part of National Travel and Tourism Week, the DCCVB announced the DeKalb County Barn Quilt Trail.

The Barn Quilt Trail is a 5 leg self-guided tour and has visitors viewing 40+ quilts.

The Barn Quilt Trail Landing Page features a printable trail brochure and driving directions, a google map of the locations, history on barn quilts in the US and in DeKalb County, and pictures to showcase the quilts on each leg.

The Barn Quilt Trail Landing Page was the second most visited landing page in May just behind the Calendar of Events.

National Travel & Tourism Week Recap
This year's National Travel and Tourism Week (NTTW) theme was Then & Now. The DCCVB had 11 posts on Facebook highlighting DeKalb County attractions now and then between May 6th & 12th.

The posts featured the Egyptian Theatre, the Glidden Homestead Barn, the Ellwood House, the Sandwich Fair Grounds, the Sandwich Opera House, NIU's Altgeld Hall, and Jonamac Orchard, the announcement of the DeKalb County Barn Quilt Trail, and the Illinois Office of Tourism's announcement of the Illinois Frank Lloyd Wright Trail.

The posts reached over 13,400 people . The week's kick off post of the Egyptian Theatre reached over 6,000 people , and the barn quilt announcement reached nearly 2,500 people .

DCCVB Enjoy Illinois Facebook Takeover Recap
The DCCVB took over the Enjoy Illinois (Illinois Office of Tourism) Facebook Page on April 18th. We had 12 posts go live throughout the day that included videos and photos highlighting events, attractions, and encouraging visitors to shop and enjoy the great outdoors.

The Bold Spirits video created just for this takeover has over 765 views . And the DCCVB Spring video has over 936 views .

NIU Football Announces Game Times for 2018 Season
Participate in the Illinois Bicentennial
Illinois Bicentennial is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to unite statewide partners, events, and projects to celebrate and commemorate our state’s 200th birthday.

In addition to Signature Events and Projects being led by the Commission, we invite all statewide partners and event and project managers planning activities between December 3, 2017 and December 3, 2018 to apply for endorsement to become an official part of Illinois Bicentennial.

Once approved, you will receive an official Bicentennial Seal of Endorsement for use on your marketing materials, in addition to statewide promotional support, including listings in our online Bicentennial events and projects calendars, official publications and social media promotion.
