The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks by Rebecca Skloot
Her name was Henrietta Lacks, but scientists know her as HeLa. She was a poor Southern tobacco farmer, yet her cells--taken without her knowledge--became one of the most important tools in medicine. The first "immortal" human cells grown in culture, they are still alive today, though she has been dead for more than sixty years.

Lightning in a Saddle: The Evelyn Hamilton Story

Evelyn Hamilton was a gifted cyclist who set distance/time records in the 1930s while being barred from competing against men in the Tour de France. She went on to aid the French Resistance during WWII, rescuing airmen by bike and couriering coded messages hidden in her handlebars.

All Fort Vancouver Regional Libraries will be closed on Saturday, November 11, for Veterans Day. Our online services will be available 24/7. We will be open regular hours on Friday, November 10.
All libraries will also be closed on Thursday, November 23, for Thanksgiving, but open regular hours on Friday, November 24. Avoid the shopping crowds and join us for Black Friday!
