Immunization Records
Happy Fall everyone,

We're finishing up a busy summer season at Rainbow Fleet that saw us welcome amazing new team members and introduce some great new programs. We are excited about the work we do to enhance the quality of life for children, their families and child care professionals.

I wanted to take a few minutes this month to discuss an important topic, immunizations, and specifically to pass along a few resources to help child care providers learn about and comply with Oklahoma's requirements as they relate to the child care environment.

According to the 2014 Child Care Guide to Immunizations in Oklahoma, "Enforcement of the child care immunization law is the responsibility of child care and Head Start directors. It is one of the most important responsibilities they encounter. The diseases that vaccines prevent are very dangerous and can be deadly. Vaccines are the best way to protect children from the diseases. Enforcement of the immunization requirements is one of the best ways to make sure that all children are vaccinated on time."

The Oklahoma State Department of Health has developed a handy web page with detailed information on the requirements for child care providers and a variety of resources to aid in your compliance efforts. The web page also provides links to information about immunizations and the diseases they were created to prevent.

Additionally, we are offering an informative training class this month on accident and disease prevention that includes an update on current immunization requirements. This class will also provide an overview of health and safety principles covering topics such as sanitation, food safety, use of a fire extinguisher and more. The training is scheduled for 7-9p.m. on Oct. 15 here at Rainbow Fleet.

Information is key when it comes to immunizations and the legal responsibilities of child care providers, and Rainbow Fleet is here to help.

Thanks for reading.

Estimadas Proveedoras:

Notes from a Nurse

Flu season is right around the corner! Some people, such as older people, young children and people with certain health conditions are at higher risk for serious flu complications. The best way to prevent the flu is by getting vaccinated each year. It's also a great time to teach good hand washing technique to kids, and how to cover coughs and sneezes. Check out these Lesson Plans for Teaching Children about Flu
Flu virus spreads through droplets in the air when the infected person coughs, sneeze or talks, and from the surfaces where these droplets land. So be sure to wash those hands and clean up any germs on surfaces! If you do become sick, studies show that flu antiviral drugs work best when they are started in the first 48 hours after symptoms appear.
To prevent this flu season from becoming severe, get your flu vaccine and practice good hand washing to reduce the spread of germs!
