A groundbreaking immunoradiotherapy study for newly diagnosed head and neck cancers

In a new study at Providence Cancer Institute, patients with newly diagnosed head and neck cancers will be treated with five days of radiation therapy, followed by immunotherapy and surgery. Da ta from pioneering studies by Marka Crittenden, M.D., Ph.D. , su ggest that radiation can boost responses to immunotherapy. The hopes are that the new approach will reduce distant metastases and will improve quality of life by reducing the duration of radiation and avoiding chemotherapy.

This trial is one of 20 immunotherapy studies currently enrolling patients with oral, head and neck cancers or multiple tumor types.
