Our Hearts are with Napa and Sonoma Counties

Dear Friends,

Like many of you, we are closely watching the wildfires in Sonoma and Napa Counties. Our hearts are with those facing the tragic loss of loved ones and their homes, and we extend our support to our neighbors to the north. We send strength and hopes for safety to the first responders, including members of our local community.

We were deeply saddened to learn that the majority of buildings at Santa Rosa’s URJ Camp Newman have been destroyed. While there is little information at this time, members of the Jewish and Camp Newman communities can find updates on Facebook.

Most importantly, all Camp Newman staff are safe. Our friends there have also shared that evacuees needing a safe place with power and water can visit the local synagogue, Congregation Shomrei Torah .

Here in the East Bay, the JCC will be limiting outside time today for all of our youth programs, keeping windows and doors closed in light of the poor air quality warning.

As these fires coincide with Sukkot, where we historically build temporary dwellings to see through to the stars, we are here, doors open, to raise you up and to cover you in both times of celebration, and in times of need.
Drop Off Donation Supplies this Week at the JCC East Bay

Anna Stofle , our Club J Assistant Director, is making two trips to the Santa Rosa and North Bay area this week to bring supplies to shelters and evacuation points. If you have items you wish to be donated, you may bring them to our Berkeley Branch, 1414 Walnut Street in Berkeley, by these times:

Today, Tuesday, October 10 by 5:30 PM or
This Thursday, October 12 by 5:30 PM

Ideas for supplies include gallons or flats of water, personal hygiene items (deodorant, toothbrush/toothpaste, feminine products), clothes in all sizes (undergarments, too), canned or dry foods, cat/dog food, etc. Anything helps for those who may have lost everything.
