Important Community Message
Dear Washington Unified Families and Friends,

At a time when our community is supposed to be filled with joy and happiness, we learned of a horrific tragedy involving the deaths of two of our Westmore Oaks Elementary students on New Year’s Eve.

There are no words to describe the deeply sad emotions that our community is experiencing. Our hearts and sincerest thoughts are with their families and all the classmates, friends, and families connected to the children.

As this is an active investigation, we will continue to work closely with local authorities to keep you apprised of ongoing developments as we receive them.

Our District will be holding a vigil next week when all students, staff and families are back from break. Our vigil will be held at Westmore Oaks Elementary School on Tuesday, January 9, 2018, at 5:30 PM. Please join us as we come together as a school community to mourn the loss of our two students.

Our school district will remain on winter recess until January 8, 2018 but have assembled a team of counselors and support personnel to assist teachers and students throughout this ordeal when schools are back in session. Support services will be available for students and teachers for the entire first week back and in the future for grief counseling for anyone who needs it.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact the Washington Unified School District’s Student and Family Support Services Department at (916) 375-7600 ext. 1370. The 24-Hour Crisis Line in West Sacramento is: (916) 372-6565.

You can also call Empower Yolo which has trained advocates available 24/7 to provide crisis intervention, emotional support, advocacy, information and referrals. All calls to Empower Yolo are private and confidential: (530) 662-1133 or (916) 371-1907.
