Burlington Township Schools
E-Notification

Jan. 12, 2018

Jan. 8, 2018

Dear Burlington Township Families,

It is obvious from the winter we have had so far that Old Man Winter is going to be around for awhile.  There are only 68 days until spring.  March 20, 2018 is the magical day for spring solstice.  We experienced issues with our calling system last week.  We have been working with our vendor and believe that the issue has been fixed.  We will be conducting a test of our emergency calling system on Saturday, January 13 at noon.  If you DO NOT receive a call or message from the system, please notify your child's school.

In addition, this special e-notification is to provide our families with some information into our emergency notification protocols and procedures.

Thanks and have a great weekend.

Liz Scott

We try to provide families with as much notice as possible regarding the status of school during inclement weather or other emergencies. As you know, weather has a high level of uncertainty and we have to consider all available information to make a determination that is in the best interest of the safety of everyone in our school community.

If possible, the decision will be made the evening before a weather event.  Families can expect the district to make telephone calls via our automated call system no later than 10:30 P.M.  In addition to the automated call system, the district will also use television stations, the Falcon Flyer, social media, and the district website to make announcements.  Depending on the timing of the decision and news deadlines, there is no exact order in which the information will be relayed.  In the event a decision regarding a school closure or delayed opening is made after 10:30 P.M., the district will release electronic notifications that night but will hold the automated telephone calls until the morning by 5:30 A.M.

As a reminder, on days when the district has a two hour delayed opening, students should arrive to their bus stops two hours later than normal. For example, if you have a high school student who is normally picked up at 6:40 A.M., they should expect to be picked up by 8:40 A.M.
EMERGENCY CLOSING AND DELAYED OPENING INFORMATION

You have numerous options to learn about the status of the schools during inclement weather.  We have purposefully included different ways to receive notification in case there are any issues with any of our systems.

A delayed opening schedule means two hours later than the student's normal time. O n days when we have a 2 hour delayed opening, students should arrive to their bus stops 2 hours later than their normal time. For example, if you have a high school student who is normally picked up at 6:40, they should arrive at the bus stop by 8:40.

For school closings and delayed openings, you will generally be contacted via our SwitftK12 Calling system using the main phone number in our student database. Make sure that the main number is the one which you would like called. If you prefer to be notified by cell phone, make sure your cell phone is the main number. In case of emergency during the school day, our system will contact the primary and secondary phone numbers.
