Burlington Township Schools
Important Emergency Information

October 6, 2016

Dear Burlington Township Families,

The weather reports are not certain as to what impact Hurricane Matthew may have on our area.  This is just a reminder for our families of the district's emergency notification process.   Keep this information handy in the event of an emergency closing or delayed opening.

Please note that an emergency early dismissal notice may be necessary. Please have necessary child care arrangements in place.

A delayed opening schedule means reporting two hours later than the student's normal time.  An early dismissal is approximately four hours after the start of school.

You have numerous options to learn about the status of the schools during inclement weather.   For school closings, emergent early dismissals and delayed openings, you will be contacted via our emergency phone calling system.  This phone information we use  is what was previously given in your electronic emergency information submission or the information contained in our student information system. Please check that your information is correct and up-to-date using Parent Portal. In case of an emergency during the school day, our system will contact the primary and secondary phone numbers.

Many people wonder about the decision making process for emergency closings, emergency early closings and delayed openings.  Careful consideration is given to all of the available information when making these decisions.  Conference calls with local Superintendents are held around 4:30 A.M. and throughout the day when a storm is predicted.  All available weather  information is carefully analyzed and discussed.  The Office of Emergency Management (OEM) along with the Burlington Township Police, and Public Works Departments are consulted for local safety concerns and conditions.  The officials in the Burlington Township community work together for the safety of our students, staff, and community.  As you are aware, the forecasted weather is not always accurate and the decisions that are made in advance are made in order to ensure that our families are given adequate time to make childcare plans.

With the possible threat of Hurricane Matthew, now is a great time for all of our families to make sure that you have plans in place for delayed openings and emergency closings.  It is also important that in the event we are forced to close schools early once schools are in session, that you have a contingency plan in place.

The safety of our students, staff and community are our priority.
