This is a very important reminder of the public service announcement sent previously for parents who have children who will be participating in trick-or-treating this Halloween.  The police department has requested that we share this important information to our community and ask that you share this with others.  It is important that we spread awareness to keep our children safe.  Please take the time to read everything in this special newsletter before your children go out trick-or-treating.

Don't forget that all schools will be running  on a half day schedule on Tuesday, October 31st.

Please be safe!

-Marijuana Candy-

BTPD Logo
There is a significant presence of marijuana candy and other edible forms in New Jersey and nearby states. The presence of these edible forms of marijuana poses a great risk to users, especially to children, who may accidently receive marijuana candy during Halloween. Adults should check for unusual candy packaging (e.g. homemade packages, such as plastic bags). Currently, there is no information indicating that anyone would intentionally give out marijuana candy.

It should be noted that this type of candy has been modified for sharing with the general public. Please share via social media

Below you will find some very important Halloween safety tips for you and your trick-or-treaters.

Swords, knives, and similar costume accessories should be short, soft, and flexible.

Avoid trick-or-treating alone. Walk in groups or with a trusted adult.

Fasten reflective tape to costumes and bags to help drivers see you.

Examine all treats for choking hazards and tampering before eating them. Limit the amount of treats you eat.

H old a flashlight while trick-or-treating to help you see and others see you. Always WALK and don't run from house to house.

Always test make-up in a small area first. Remove it before bedtime to prevent possible skin and eye irritation.

Look both ways before crossing the street. Use established crosswalks wherever possible.

Lower your risk for serious eye injury by not wearing decorative contact lenses.

Only walk on sidewalks whenever possible, or on the far edge of the road facing traffic to stay safe.

Wear well-fitting masks, costumes, and shoes to avoid blocked vision, trips, and falls.

Eat only factory-wrapped treats. Avoid eating homemade treats made by strangers.

Enter homes only if you're with a trusted adult.
