You are receiving this email because you have registered as a participant in the 2015 Quintiles Bull City Race Fest & Food Truck Rodeo. 

 

Each newsletter will contain important information to help make this event successful and safe for everyone involved. 

 

In this newsletter, we review Important Race Weekend Information

 

Schedule of Events:

Saturday, October 17th

11:00 AM-6:00 PM - Mandatory Packet Pick-Up and Pre-Race Expo


Sunday, October 18th

5:00 AM - first runners arrive & bag check opens

6:30 AM – last runners parked (arrive later and you will risk missing the start of the race)

6:45-7:15 AM – half marathon & 5 mile runners to start lining up at the start line on Blackwell Street

7:20 AM – pre-race announcements and national anthem

7:30 AM – half marathon & 5 mile run start

7:45 AM – 1 mile run start on Julian Carr Street

7:50 AM – first 1 mile finisher

7:55 AM – first 5 mile finisher

8:40 AM – first half marathon finisher

10:45 AM – bag check closes – unclaimed items to be donated

10:45 AM – award ceremony

10:50 AM – last official half marathon finisher

11:00 AM – Blackwell Street reopens to traffic

12:00 noon – post-race festivities conclude

 

Registration:

In-person will be available only at the expo on Saturday only (no race day registration).

Fees: Half Marathon $90, 5 Mile Run $55, 1 Mile Run $25 

 

Race Number/Bib Assignments:
On race week we will also post a master list of bib assignments on our race website

If you are picking up multiple bibs for friends/family, please come prepared to the expo with a list of bib numbers.

NO RACE DAY PACKET PICK-UP!

Runners must pick-up their race numbers and shirts on Saturday, October 17th between 11 AM-6 PM. 

However, as a convenience to those that are unable to pick-up their packet on Saturday, October 17th we are offering a Pre-Paid Race Day Packet Pick-Up option for a $15 fee. This service is limited to the first 250 runners that register.

• This opportunity is first come, first serve and once sold out we will not be able to accomodate additional runners.
• Once you register for this service, you will NOT receive a refund if you pick up your packet at the Expo.

• Friends/Family may pick up your packet for you on Race Day.

 

Pre-Paid Race Day Packet Pickup hours will be from 5:30 AM – 7:00 AM.  You will receive

 

T-Shirts:

Your t-shirt size will be on your race bib and volunteers will provide you with the size selection that you indicated when you registered.  You will not be able to switch sizes. 

 

How to Switch Races:

This must be done at the pre-race expo at the Customer Service table on Saturday, October 17th between 11 AM-6 PM.  Please come prepared to pay the difference if upgrading to a longer distance race. No refunds will be provided if you are downgrading to a shorter distance race.

 

Please do not change categories without letting us know.

Race Start Times & Locations
7:30 AM: Half Marathon & 5 Mile Run | Blackwell St & Vivian St
7:45 AM: 1 Mile Run | Julian Carr St

 

Reminder for 1 Mile Runners:

Your start time is 7:45 AM and your start line location is on Julian Carr St. See [race site map].


Road Closures on Race Day:
-Jackie Robinson St at the 147 Ramp in front of the Durham Bulls Stadium – closed from 4:00-11:00 AM
-Willard St at Blackwell St – closed from 4:00-11:00 AM
-Blackwell St between Morehead Ave and W. Pettigrew St – closed from 4:00-11:00 AM


Traffic Info:
There will be many road closures and traffic diversions/detours in place on race morning.

When to Arrive & Line Up:
Plan to be parked no later than 6:30 AM. All of the parking decks are no more than a 5-minute walk from the start line. Runners are asked to begin lining up behind the start line between 7:00-7:15 AM. Pace signage will be available for both races. Please line up accordingly in tight formation. Important pre-race announcements will be made at 7:20 AM.

Portojons!
We will have more than enough portojons and wash stations under the Highway 147 overpass at the corner of Blackwell Street and Jackie Robinson St (across from the main entrance to the Durham Bulls Stadium). Look for the light trailers.

All bathrooms inside American Tobacco Campus buildings will be closed to the public!

Aid Station Info:
There will be 6 aid stations located on the course. The first aid station will also serve the 5 Mile Run.
-Mile 2-3 (Watts St): serving Diamond Springs Water & Accelerade Sports Drink, 3 portojons available
-Mile 3-4 (Englewood Ave): serving Diamond Springs Water & Accelerade Sports Drink, 3 portojons available
-Mile 6 (9th Street): serving Diamond Springs Water & Accelerade Sports Drink, 3 portojons available
-Mile 8 (Duke East Campus): serving Diamond Springs Water &  Accelerade Sports Drink, Accel Energy Gels, 3 portojons available
-Mile 10 & 11 (Morehead Ave & Anderson St): serving Diamond Springs Water & Accelerade Sports Drink, 3 portojons available. Runners will pass this aid station twice.
-Mile 12 (Wells St): serving Diamond Springs Water & Accelerade Sports Drink, 3 portojons available

Food Truck Rodeo:
After racing across the finish line, The Food Truck Rodeo will be ready and waiting for you. While most trucks take credit cards you may want to bring some cash to ensure you can get your favorite sweet and savory treats!!

Beer Garden:
Complimentary beer will be served to registered runners in the post-race area. You must present a valid ID first in order to obtain a bracelet. Each bracelet is good for 2 beers. You will not be allowed to leave the post-race area with a beer in hand.

Costume Contest:

Minimum Pace Requirement:

Participants must maintain a minimum pace of 15:00/mile to participate in this event. This rule in place to enable Durham Police to reopen the major roads used for race course. We will have race officials on bikes at the back of the pack to enforce this rule.

Bag Check:

Available from 5:00-10:45 AM on race day at the Durham Bulls Stadium entrance on Blackwell St on the American Tobacco Campus (very close to the start line). Please provide your own bag and do not give us your valuables.

 

Parking:

Parking is available for at the American Tobacco Campus in the North and South parking decks.  Each of these lots holds approximately 1,300 vehicles and are a short walk from the post-race area. 

 

[Driving Directions] are available on the American Tobacco Historic District site.

 

To expedite pre-race parking, McLaurin Professional Parking Services, with support from race volunteers, will manage the pre-race parking logistics for the Quintiles Bull City Race Fest in order to ensure that this important part of race morning goes as smoothly as possible, and so that everyone arrives at the start line in time and without undue stress.

 

The 3 things you MUST know:

1. You MUST plan to arrive and be parked by 6:30 AM in order to avoid heavy traffic delays, and to give yourself time to arrive at the start line by 7:10 AM.  The race starts at 7:30 AM.
2. You must follow the instructions of parking professionals and parking volunteers to expedite parking. As parking decks/lots fill up, they will direct you to available parking.
3. If you are not parked by 6:30 AM you may risk missing the start of the race.

If you can find alternative means of transportation on race morning, please do so. Also, we highly encourage carpooling!

 

Official Pace Team:
If you’ve got a specific goal race pace in mind, be sure to follow Official Pace Team runners, sponsored by the Balanced Movement Studio and Proaxis Physical Therapy. There will be groups running at 30 second intervals from a 6:30 to 10:30 per mile pace. No pre-race sign-up required. Just look for the  Pace Runner shirts at the start line.

Medical Information:

Please take a moment to read the [important medical information] posted on our website. We want every runner to have a safe and enjoyable race experience!


Timing:

Each runner will receive a race number which must be worn on the front of your shirt. Your race number will have a disposable timing chip secured to the back. 

 

Restrictions:
For safety purposes and logistics management, baby strollers and pets are NOT allowed in the Half Marathon, 5 Mile Run, or 1 Mile Run. No exceptions will be made. Littering on the course will result in disqualification.

 

 

Refund Policy:

All registration fees are non-refundable. Event registrations are non-transferable between individuals, events, or years.

Weather Policy:

Races are held, rain or shine, unless Endurance Magazine determines that conditions are too dangerous. This will be based on a prudent decision made on race weekend or race day Endurance Magazine and local law enforcement officials. If the race is canceled due to inclement weather there will be neither refunds nor transfers. This position is consistent with USA Track & Field recommendations and with the protocol of sharing the risks associated with the sport of running. In the event of inclement weather or unforeseen circumstances, Endurance Magazine reserves the right to alter, cancel or eliminate any/all portions of the race.
