Please look up your bib number before picking up your race packet. Make sure your age and sex are correct so we can make the appropriate changes before race day. If a change needs to be made, please email m [email protected] .
 
Per race policy REFUND, DEFERRALS and TRANSFERS for this year's races are NO LONGER AVAILABLE.

Due to the early start time, runners are urged to pick up packets before Labor Day. Although we have ordered 6,000 technical running shirts, sizes cannot be guaranteed. For best selection pick up your packet and t-shirt before race day!
You can have a friend pick up your race packet for you.

Runners' Forum
SCSU Exercise Science Department is providing a Runners' Forum on Sunday, September 6. The Runners' Forum is at the Broadway Triangle across from Trailblazer in New Haven from 1-4 PM. The event offers the opportunity to learn about sport nutrition, biomechanics, prevention and care of running injuries and more. Also, the race's elite runners will be available for a Q&A! 5k Race Start
To allow for a smoother and safer start for all participants the race has a men's and women's start line. Men start at corner of Chapel & Temple Street. Women start at corner of Chapel & Church Street. Participants merge together on-course at the ½ mile mark. Families & friends wishing to run together are permitted to start at the same line.
 
Timing
You are timed using the B-tag timing system. The B-tag is attached to the back of the bib, DO NOT BEND OR REMOVE TAGS, you may compromise your race results. Tags do not need to be returned after the race. Make sure your bib is affixed to the outer layer of clothing on your front side. Please do not wear the race bib on back.
 
Security and Baggage Check
BACKPACKS ARE NOT ALLOWED on the New Haven Green or near finish line area. New Haven Police patrol the area to enforce this policy. Policy is in effect for runners AND spectators. Amtrak Security is providing baggage check service on the upper Green (behind pre-registered tent) for runners. Baggage check items are placed in clear plastic bags provided by the race. Please plan accordingly. Baggage must be picked up by noon on Labor Day.
Directions
To Trailblazer, Race Headquarters (296 Elm Street, New Haven )
From I-95 N: Take Exit 47 (Downtown New Haven). Follow until it becomes a city street. Turn right onto Howe St. Turn right onto Elm St. Trailblazer is on your right.
From I-95 S: Take Exit 47 (Downtown New Haven). Follow directions from above.
From I-91 S: Take Exit 1 (Downtown New Haven). Follow directions from above.
To New Haven Green
From I-95 N: Take Exit 47 (Downtown New Haven), take second right onto Church St., left at 3rd light to Chapel St., New Haven Green is on the right.
From I-95 S: Take Exit 47 (Downtown New Haven). Follow directions from I-95 heading north.
From I-91 S: Take Exit 47 (Downtown New Haven). Follow directions from I-95 heading north.

**Please avoid driving on Elm and Church Streets on race morning. Police will be diverting traffic to set up start line mats**
 
Parking
Reduced parking fee for runners is available on Labor Day in the Temple Street Parking Garage and Crown Street Parking Garage. To get to the Temple Street Garage follow the directions above to Church Street and take 2nd left to Crown Street. The garage's entrance is on left in ½ block. The entrance to the Crown Street Garage is 1 ½ blocks on the right.

Clothing Donation Encouraged!
Bring your gently used clothing to packet pickup at Trailblazer. We are collecting clothing for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southwestern Connecticut. Donation receipts are available on site. Be a Part of Something Big!

20K Pacers
Pacers are available to help you reach your goal time! Look for runners' holdings green pace time signs and wearing red PACER bibs on their backs at the start. Pacers lead 7:00-10:00 minutes per mile for the 20K race only.

Start Area Protocol
Please look for signs in the start area marked with expected running paces for the 5K and 20K: 7-minute mile, 8-minute mile, and 9-minute and 10-minute mile. Please line up in an area marked with your projected pace to encourage a smooth and safe start.
  Timing mats are at the 5K and 20K start lines to give runners net times (subtracts time it takes to cross the starting line). Net times are used for informational purposes only and gun times are used for awards and overall finish placing.

Water Stations
Water stations are located at Mile 2, 2.5, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 9.5, 10.5, and 11 of the 20K course. Please use them! A water station is available approximately mid-way through the 5K course. Generation UCAN's electrolyte hydration drink is provided at all water stations and at the finish line. Generation UCAN Fuel is available at Mile 8 and on New Haven Green. GU Energy Gel is available just before Mile 7 on 20K course.
 
Time Restrictions
The 5K race is limited to 55 minutes. The 20K race has a time limit of 3 hours.  All races use the same finish line.  Any runner not finished by 11:40 am is disqualified.
 
What To Expect Raceday:
Labor Day in New Haven has been hot and humid. The medical director can cancel or postpone the race in the case of extreme weather conditions (see here for info).

Amity Physical Therapy is proving massage therapists before and after the race! The massage tent is located near the pre-registration tent on the upper Green. 

There is a fully staffed medical tent near the finish line. The doctors, nurses and emergency medical technicians who staff this tent work for your safety and benefit. Please follow their instructions. Medical personnel have the authority to disqualify any runner who continues the race after being told to retire due to injury or heat stress.
 
Dogs, bicycles, in-line skates and baby joggers are not allowed on the race courses.  
 
Digital display clocks are located at every mile mark in the 20K and the 1 and 2 mile marks of the 5K. Each mile of both courses are clearly marked.
 
This year's race features 18 bands & DJ's on the 20K course and 3 on the 5K course!
 
Connecticut USATF representatives handle Connecticut USATF team results.
 
Our finish line system provides your time and place less than a half hour after you cross the finish line. Results are posted on the side of the Center Church as soon as they become available. Please let the race timers at the finish line know if there are any result errors before you leave. Complete results are posted at newhavenroadrace.org by 3 pm on race day and results are printed in the New Haven Register the following day.
Post-Race Party
Enjoy food from Chabaso Bakery, Turkey Hill Ice Cream, Dunkin Donuts, Pure Protein bars, cookies from Lindley and hot dogs from Park New Haven. Harpoon Brewery and Crystal Rock is providing post-race refreshments! Post-race party includes live music, inflatables for children and more! Only runners displaying official race bibs receive free food and beer (21+).

Awards
Cash and bonus prizes for the 20K total $46,850! The list of prizes is as follows:
  • Cash awards to the first 10 American male and female finishers (USATF 20K National Championship).
  • Cash prizes to the top 3 CT male and female runners & top USATF/CT teams.
  • First man and/or woman to break the existing 20K course record receives $1,000 Course Record bonus (57:37, Khannouchi, 65:11, DeReuck).
  • Non-cash prizes to the first 3 finishers in each age division (5K & 20K) and to the first 3 wheelchair finishers (20K only).
  • Gerard Esposito Award given to fastest male & female judge or lawyer (20K only)
  • Corporate Cup awards to members of the top 3 corporate teams in each race.
  • 5K & 20K races features Clydesdale/Athena awards. The Clydesdale division is for men weighing  over 200 pounds and women weighing over 150 pounds.
