Welcome Back!

Welcome back to the 2015-2016 school year.  It has been a very busy summer and there has been a lot of activity at the school in preparation for your return.

We would like to start off by welcoming our new families.  We look forward to fulfilling our mission as a Christ-centered community as we partner with you to educate your child(ren) in the faith.  You have prayerfully been guided to Saint Andrew and we welcome you to our school community.

We will be Living the Word this year with a  Year of Mercy.  We acknowledge our gifts and praise God for showing mercy upon us.  Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His great mercy has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, (1Peter1:3).  We will focus on using our gifts to show mercy on others and lead them to Christ.

Again, we welcome you to the new school year and look forward to building our next generation of leaders.

Yours in Christ,

Charles Llewellyn, President

  • Widening of sidewalk outside of gym
  • New storage facility attached to the gym (behind)
  • Phase 2 of painting and new ceiling tile in the Saint Anthony Hall
  • Established room for Leveled Reading library in Saint Anthony Hall
  • Assistant Principal office outside of the library
  • Resource Room moved across from the clinic
  • Remodeled faculty room for our Pre-K 3 program
  • Advancement office converted to faculty room
  • Converted storage room on west side of the Kindergarten building to two offices for Advancement and Communications
  • New sidewalk and awning to Advancement and Communication offices
  • Advancement office converted to faculty room

The school is very grateful to the parish for taking care of us this summer and seeing these projects through to the end.  All of these things are made possible by your generosity.  We seek to be good stewards of our resources and structure our campus to create the best learning environment for our students.

Academics

We are thrilled to be implementing exciting, cutting-edge curricula in our classrooms. Below are some of the new programs being utilized in our classrooms.

The Creative Curriculum for Preschool -

Preschool 3

This method is based on five fundamental principles:

  • Positive interactions and relationships with adults provide a critical foundation for successful learning.
  • Social-emotional competence is a significant factor in school success.
  • Constructive, purposeful play supports essential learning.
  • The physical environment affects the type and quality of learning interactions.
  • Teacher-family partnerships promote development and learning.

Our youngest students will benefit tremendously from all-encompassing program which will lay the foundation for years of success at Saint Andrew.

Daily 5

Kindergarten - 2nd grade

This framework structures literacy helping students develop lifelong habits of reading, writing, and working independently. In this method, students select from five authentic reading and writing choices, working independently toward personalized goals, while the teacher meets individual needs through whole-group and small-group instruction, as well as one-on-one conferring.

These classrooms will be working diligently employing all these methods and producing highly engaged students who are developing a true love of literacy.

Pearson Math

Kindergarten - 5th grade

The new enVisionmath2.0 promotes focus and coherence. Goals include developing in-depth understanding and connecting mathematical content with practice standards. With a focus on problem-based learning and visual learning and rigorous mathematics, learners are engaged and instruction is comprehensive, collaborative with many online resources allowing the learning to continue at home.

STEMscopes Science

Kindergarten - 4th grade & 6th grade

Born in teacher professional development labs at Rice University, STEMscopes creates a student-centric blended STEM learning environment where teachers are able to teach, intervene, and accelerate their diverse students. Combining digital resources, supplemental print, and hands-on kits, STEMscopes increases engagement, rigor, and student achievement.

The online components of this program are phenomenal with changes being made continuously and fun resources including videos, games and songs. Students can get "down and dirty" with science through extensive hands-on, inquiry-based science investigations.

Scientific Spelling

1st grade - 4th grade

Scientific Spelling is a curriculum that explicitly teaches students to spell by translating sounds into letters or letter clusters using the reliable patterns and rules of the English language. Students learn to analyze words and group them into like categories for ease in learning. Students do not learn to memorize a given list of words, but rather they learn how to spell.

Studies Weekly

3rd grade - 4th grade

Studies Weekly helps teachers provide the most implementation-ready solution for teaching children standards and framework skills. Students will be actively engaged with content-learning experiences based on primary records that turn the hearts of children to their predecessors - to transfer love of country, love of humanity, love of learning, integrity, hard work and passion for one's beliefs to the next generation.

McGraw Hill Math

6th grade - 8th grade

McGraw Hill Math makes math relevant, rigorous and possible for every student. Putting math in context helps students see how math matters. The three components of rigor-conceptual understanding, application, and procedural skill and fluency-are embedded in resources, lessons, and even assessments. The goal of this curriculum is proficiency for all students by meeting students where they are in their learning, which ensures that all students master concepts before moving on, while beyond-level students are continually challenged.

McGraw Hill - Texas History

7th grade

With this updated curriculum, well-written narratives bring the story of Texas to life through relevant videos and dynamic visuals. Rich, interactive maps, info- graphics and games allow for digging deeper into concepts. Through hands-on learning and numerous interactive technological components, our 7th graders will get to fully immerse themselves in Texas history!

Math Counts Math Club

6th grade - 8th grade

Sponsored by the National Math Club, an inclusive math enrichment program, this club brings fun and exciting math to students across the country. The National Math Club helps build confidence in students of all ability and interest levels by giving them the opportunity to engage in unique math activities in a relaxed, social setting. Competitions are held at the school, local, regional and even national level. This club will allow our Math-loving students to take their love of numbers outside of the classroom while representing Saint Andrew Catholic School.

Robotics

 5th grade - 8th grade

Now open to 5th Graders! The purpose of the Saint Andrew Catholic School Robotics Program is to support

and enhance the character development of each student through a sense of discipline, hard work, team effort, and the individual pursuit of excellence.
