We regret to inform you that a very special member of our team at the Arlington Family YMCA, Quinton Harris, drowned in rough waters off Huguenot Park last Saturday.

If you had the privilege of knowing Quinton, you understand his unmatched energy, amazing enthusiasm no matter the task, tremendous passion for his work, and his heart that overflowed with compassion. Each and every day, he exemplified the quality and attributes of service that set the bar for Y staff members at every level of the organization. His work with us began two years ago as an intern while he studied Exercise Science at Jacksonville University. When he completed his internship, he was a shoe-in to become part of the team at Arlington while he completed his undergraduate career, earning his degree in December 2012. Very recently, he had accepted a full-time position as the Membership Coordinator - a role he earned and certainly would have excelled in. He was looking forward to his future of being a successful chiropractor and planned to start school in fall of 2013. Needless to say, we feel honored to have had the chance, albeit much too short, to have worked alongside such an amazing young man.

Whether he checked you in with his great big smile each morning before the sun was even up or he helped make your hard work a little more fun in one of his intense boot camp-style classes, we'd love for you to join us to celebrate his life. Quinton's official services will be held in South Carolina, where he was from, so we are hosting an informal gathering with light refreshments at the Y this Friday, June 21, 2013 at 11:00am for anyone who knew and loved him during his time in Jacksonville. Feel free to drop off cards or notes, if you cannot join us. We will be assembling everything contributed into a memory book to send to his family.
