Expedited Code of Ethics Enforcement
Following are the Articles of the Code where enforcement can be expedited through the
Citation Policy. It's works when you are willing to file complaints. The Respondent has the option to admit guilt, pay a fine and avoid a hearing.
Article 1: REALTORS® protect and promote the interest of clients
Article 3: REALTORS® shall cooperate with other Brokers
Article 4: REALTORS® shall disclosure ownership or other interests.
Article 5: REALTORS® shall disclose present or comtemplated interests
Article 6: REALTORS® shall not accept commissions without the clients knowledge and consent.
Article 12: REALTORS® shall be honest and truthful in their real estate communications
Article 14: Failing to cooperate in a Professional Standards proceeding or investigation
Article 16: REALTORS® shall not interfere with exclusive relationships REALTORS® have with clients.
Failure to Secure a Listed Property
Is not a violation of the REALTOR
® Code of Ethics or MLS Rules, BUT it is common sense and a responsibility
REALTORS® have to listed sellers. In addition, to being common sense, you don't want to be excluded from showing a seller's property because you failed to secure it when you left the last time. Start a new habit TODAY if it's not already your habit. After showing a property, ask your clients to step outside so that you can go back through the property UNINTERRUPTED and UNDISTRACTED, to ensure all doors are securely locked. Generally, it's distractions that cause showing agents to leave doors unlocked, leave the key hanging in the door knob, leave the lockbox tray wide open, etc. When you drive away from a listed property, be aware and have confidence that you left the house locked. Your reputation depends upon it.
