Happenings at The Policy Circle

2017 State Policy Network (SPN) Conference
The Policy Circle team was in San Antonio, Texas in August for the State Policy Network's 25th annual meeting. SPN is a network of the state and national policy organizations that develop and promote policies that advance freedom.

The Policy Circle team was on the ground, connecting with these policy organizations, attending sessions on the latest policy developments and sharing the growth story of The Policy Circle. The resulting partnerships with free-market policy organizations allows The Policy Circle to connect thought leaders and their ideas with Policy Circle Leaders and members.

We were also pleased to sponsor SPN's 5K for Freedom race with this year's theme being Mind of my Own.
Get Your Mind of my Own T-Shirt!
Labels attempt to apply a black and white approach to life, but true progress occurs through shades of grey. For this reason, The Policy Circle launched #MindOfMyOwn as a message of empowerment for women to express themselves. By researching the issues we face as a society, women develop their own beliefs on what the best path forward ought to be, even if it means breaking apart your average stereotype.

You too can celebrate making up your own mind by visiting our t-shirt store !

Energy and the Environment
Americans desire energy sources that are reliable, affordable and clean, so we can fuel our economy while responsibly overseeing our natural resources. But is this possible when it comes to energy policy and the environment?  What is the current energy situation in the U.S. and how did we get here?  And what energy policy best balances meeting our energy needs while being responsible stewards of the world's resources?  Read on for an overview of our energy mix, what role government should play and what reforms are needed to deliver affordable, reliable and clean energy to the U.S.

If you want to better understand the writings of Milton Friedman, brush up on The Federalist Papers, or just get a better all-around grasp of free-market economic theory, take a moment to read through this concise and approachable guide which features shortened versions of works by great economists. Background on each author, excerpts, and links to condensed versions of classic free-market texts are listed to help you get up to speed on classic thought leaders and their works in the field of free-market economics.

Freedom of expression  - also referred to as freedom of speech for individuals and freedom of the press - is often noted as central to a vibrant democracy.  In the United States, we enjoy free speech to an extent that is relatively rare compared to other countries.  It is the most cherished of our freedoms because it underlies the exchange of ideas, self-determination and freedom itself.  This brief discusses freedom of speech as provided in the First Amendment of the Constitution, why it is important in a democracy and the challenges of supporting freedom of speech while also promoting safety and security.
