Santa Rosa Junior College and North Bay Organizing Project (NBOP) invite proposals for workshops, presentations, panels, and performances for our second-annual We the Future Social Justice Conference, which will be held at SRJC Petaluma on Friday April 13, 2018 from 9am to 3pm and is FREE AND OPEN TO ALL. Last year's inaugural conference attracted nearly 400 participants and drew people together from all walks of life, from college and high-school students to longtime local activists representing varied groups including Graton Day Labor Center, LGBTQ Connection, Community Action Coalition, Homeless Action! and the Police Brutality Coalition of Sonoma County.

We encourage proposals that address this year's theme: "Feeding Ourselves, Feeding Our Souls." This year's topic reflects both the issues of social justice in the realm of food, as well as the urgent concern with healing, nourishing, and building healthy communities in the aftermath of the devastating North Bay fires. Proposals for workshops that are hands-on and interactive, and that address the connection between social justice, personal and community wellbeing, and equitable access to resources will be prioritized.

In keeping with this theme, our keynote speaker will be Nikki Silvestri, a thought leader on issues of food justice and sustainability who was named one of the 100 Most Influential African Americans by The Root magazine.

Responsibilities:
* Recruit, train and mobilize volunteers to engage on priority local, state and federal issues.
* Develop and implement grassroots advocacy campaigns in the areas of access to care; tobacco control; nutrition, physical activity and the built environment; funding for cancer research; cancer prevention, early detection and treatment; and quality of life for cancer patients.

The Department of Fire and Emergency Services seeks multiple, qualified seasonal, extra-help Maintenance Worker II's (MW II's) to work on the Chipper Program throughout Sonoma County.

MW II's provide chipper services and help the community create defensible land in case of fires. Ideal candidates for these positions will have previous chipping experience.

Maintenance Worker II's assigned to the Chipper Program positions will:

* Tow a chipper machine to project locations
* Collect measurable data (i.e., areas of service, cubic yards of fuel, time invested)

* Operate a chainsaw in order to trim branches
* Provide direction to a small crew of personnel performing chipping of brush and other routine tasks

Title of Announcement: Bilingual Community Advocate  communiyt

Salary : $16.50 - $18.50 Hourly

Position Summary:  The Bilingual Community Advocate is stationed at Sonoma Works and is responsible for providing assistance and resource information to victims of domestic violence. The Sonoma Works Bilingual Community Advocate acts as an intake worker for the Season of Sharing fund, screens applicants, and assists with the completion of forms.

At the heart of the YWCA's programs are our domestic violence and sexual assault services. We provide a wide range of services to victims of domestic violence and their children so they can heal, become self-sufficient, and return productively to the community.

This is a high-profile, public-interaction position requiring a high degree of compassion, professionalism, and a constant awareness that the employee is often the first non-law enforcement contact the victim encounters. The Bilingual Community Advocate is truly an 'ambassador' for the organization. Public presentations about domestic violence issues are occasionally required. The Bilingual Community Advocate must be available to be on a rotating on-call schedule, and be responsive to phone calls and to immediate law enforcement advocate requests.

Prerequisite Qualifications: The candidate must meet the following criteria in order to be considered for employment in this position:
* Bilingual/Spanish required.
* Any combination of education, training and experience that would provide the opportunity to acquire the knowledge, skills and abilities above.

Title of Announcement: Associate MFT/ACSW - Paid Internshipmft

Salary:  $12 - $14 hourly

Job summary:  Under the direction of the Therapy Program Manager and our team of Clinical Supervisors, the MFT/ACSW Associate provides direct clinical services to women, men, children, and families who have either experienced or witnessed domestic violence or who have experienced or are at risk of abuse. Individual, family, and group work may be performed depending on intern skill set and interest and on assignment availability. This position includes: providing direct psychotherapy treatment, performing client psychosocial assessments, developing treatment plans and guiding the treatment process, developing exit plans, providing psychological and emotional support to clients, facilitating client support groups, adhering to client confidentiality standards, training in trauma informed therapy and participating in individual as well as two hours of group supervision each week. In an attempt to foster greater client empowerment, all direct psychotherapy treatment duties are to be carried out through a client-driven model through which client input heavily shapes treatment plans and goals. This position requires a minimum a one year commitment that may be extended at the agreement of both parties.

Prerequisite Qualifications:  The candidate must meet the following criteria in order to be considered for employment in this position:
* Experience working with children, adolescents and families preferred.
* Demonstrated oral, written and interpersonal communication skills, including ability to relate to diverse client and community population via telephone and in person.
* Master's Degree from accredited college or university in the field of marriage and family counseling, social work or psychology and/or all academic preparation required for licensing or internship as defined by state licensing requirements.
* Must be currently licensed as a MFT, ASW, or working towards the fulfillment of associate hours under the supervision of appropriately licensed MFT or psychologist licensed per the State of California's requirements.
* Satisfactorily pass a drug screen (provided by agency).

Intro: At the heart of the YWCA's programs are our domestic violence services. We provide a wide range of services to victims of domestic violence and their children so they can heal, become self-sufficient, and return productively to the community.

Position Summary: Working under the direction of the Center Director/Site Supervisor and in collaboration with the other teaching staff, teachers are responsible for developing and implementing a quality childcare program that helps develop children's physical, social/emotional, and cognitive areas of development. This can include, but is not limited to, modeling positive communication, nurturance, and effective problem-solving skills. Responsible for planning classroom and small group activities around weekly themes and children's skill set, setting-up and cleaning-up activities, assisting with the arrival and departure of children, and maintaining appropriate classroom records. Teachers develop and maintain professional communication and dialogue with parents and hold bi-annual parent/teacher conferences with the family of their primary group of students. They also complete necessary assessments for children and participate in all Center activities.

Distinguishing Characteristics :This is the journey level of the Child Care career ladder. This classification works with less supervision than the Child Care Assistant, but recognizes all levels of experience have a role in the team. This classification must meet and maintain no less than the minimum qualifications to meet State of California, Title 5 requirements (minimum: Teacher Permit,12-24 Early Childhood Education, ECE, units ), including professional growth activities. The Site Supervisor is the next level in the career ladder and is responsible for site supervision.

As Detention Specialists gain experience and seniority they gain more flexibility in selecting different shifts, and the opportunity for career advancement to Detention Specialist II ($21.55 - $26.20 hour). To be a successful Detention Specialist you must:

  • Remain calm, clear, and in control when working with difficult or irate individuals

Being a Detention Specialist can be demanding, but for those who have passion for this work, you will be rewarded with camaraderie and the ability to help others in your community. Although these positions require minimal or no physical contact with inmates, Detention Specialist do work in close proximity to and interact with inmates (e.g., answering questions, exchanging paperwork and property, etc.). Detention Specialists are required to work day, swing, and graveyard shifts, weekends, holidays, other shift assignments, and overtime. They are also subject to the departmental policies, including uniform requirements and standards of conduct.
