Message from Executive Director Walter Kalman

NASW Special Meeting

NASW has rescheduled a special meeting of the members to be held virtually, August 25 at 3 p.m. ET.  Some members had petitioned for a special meeting to change the Association's modernization initiative, but members do not have authority to change a Board-adopted initiative. Instead, the meeting's purpose will be to hear members' thoughts and questions about the initiative. Information on the modernization initiative is available at

Members interested in participating must pre-register by July 29, 2016.  Register here. When you register, send us an email to info@naswnj.org so we can share any additional information with you prior to the virtual meeting.

Once your registration is complete, you will receive a confirmation email with additional details. If you have any questions regarding the meeting, please send an email to specialmeeting@naswdc.org.

Psychotherapy Scam Warning

It has been brought to our attention that recently many members in private practice have been receiving an email from a potential client claiming to be of Canadian origin looking for psychotherapy and/or couples counseling services while they are on vacation in New Jersey. Our advice is not to engage further by email or phone.

You should always exercise caution about providing social work services to clients who are out of state as you may be violating licensing laws of another jurisdiction.  We have programs in our Continuing Education Online Institute (www.naswwa.inreachce.com/) including a presentation by Dr. Frederic Reamer on Practicing Social Work in an Electronic World: Ethical and Risk-Management Issues. Click here for more information for this workshop.  There are many other online workshops that will position you for safety in your practice.

License Renewal
What You Need to Know to Renew Your License in 2016

By now you should have received a renewal notice for your Social Work License (LSW or LCSW) or Certification (CSW) in the mail. The notice was sent from the Office of the Attorney General, Division of Consumer Affairs (not the Board of Social Work Examiners).

Renewal is online only and your renewal notice will provide you with instructions on how to renew your license or certification.
You must renew your license by August 31, 2016 or you cannot work as a social worker in New Jersey.

IMPORTANT NOTICE
Regarding License Renewal & Passport Request:
If you are a US Citizen or qualified alien, you do NOT need to provide a copy of your passport.  Scroll down to the bottom of the notice page requesting your passport, click "I understand" and continue with your renewal.

Click here to access the FAQ page on license renewal and CE requirements.

If you're an NASW member and still have questions after reading the License Renewal web page, please feel free to reach out to our NASW-NJ Licensing Hotline by submitting a form to www.tinyurl.com/LicensingHotline
