NASW-NJ 45th Anniversary Gala

A Message from
Executive Director Walter Kalman

walter As I said in the last issue of FOCUS, "change is inevitable. Change can be good. It can present us with new opportunities, motivate us to take action and reinforce the choices we've made."

As Social Workers we are agents of change, but not all change is good. Embracing our social work values means that we must express our concerns when we feel change may be counterproductive. We must work to improve and correct the deficiencies and maximize the benefits of potential changes.

Last week you should have received a message from our national NASW Board President, Darrell Wheeler, outlining the changes that are anticipated. As a member, you have a right and responsibility to understand the meaning and the effect of changes that impact YOUR professional association, and to express your views on these plans. To learn more, go to socialworkers.org/governance/default.asp. We will endeavor to keep you appraised of anticipated changes.

We are living in tumultuous times - environmentally, politically, economically, organizationally. The motto of our Political Action for Candidate Election (PACE) committee is, "the world belongs to those who show up". It is your job to "show up" and join in, to stay abreast of changes and to express your concerns and/or your support.
