Private Practitioners Please Note:
Medicaid Does Not Pay Social Workers in NJ

Some private practitioners are finding that, despite being a participating, in-network provider with a particular insurance company, they are not getting paid for services to some clients who are insured by that company. One possible reason would be if the client is covered under Medicaid.
In New Jersey, Medicaid is now issued and administered by five different health insurance companies ( see the first 2 links below for the names of these  companies). If your client is insured through one of their Medicaid managed care plans, you will not be paid.

Clients with Medicaid will have a card issued by the insurance company and may tell you over the phone that they are covered. The following websites provide information about NJ Family Care, which is a Medicaid program for children and families:

The best practice for ensuring that you do not inadvertently see clients for whom you will not get paid, is to do a benefit check before seeing the client. That can be done by phone or, in some cases, through a company such as Navinet at https://navinet.navimedix.com/sign-in?ReturnUrl=/Main.aspx.

Newly Added CE Course!
Bullying in School as Child Neglect
(2 Clinical CEUs)

November 9, 2015 from 6:00-8:00 pm in South Orange
Presenter: Stuart Green, LCSW, DMH

Bullying in school arises from weaknesses in school culture, for which educators are ultimately responsible. Bullying reflects neglect by educators of a responsibility comparable to the duty owed to children by caregivers and should be viewed as institutional child neglect. Child neglect measures should, therefore, be applied, including duty to report and the involvement of social service agencies and child advocates. Viewing childhood bullying in this way will lead to more effective prevention and addressing of bullying, and safer, better lives for children.

For those licensed in NY: NASW New Jersey Chapter SW CPE is recognized by the New York State Education Department's State Board for Social Work as an approved provider of continuing education for licensed social workers #0138.
