Message from Executive Director Walter Kalman

We Are Orlando!

This week, our nation suffered a horrific attack at the Pulse nightclub in Orlando. The death toll was higher than in any single "mass shooting" in U.S. history.

The wounds from this event are many: The appalling loss of life and the violence perpetrated against the LGBTQ community are obvious. But the ongoing debate about gun control, in which leaders of our country continue to support easy access to firearms, creates yet another wound for all who have suffered previous losses as well as for everyone who lives at risk in a society that allows the purchase of automatic weapons by its citizens.

I ask you to contact the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence at 1-855-331-8593. Your call will help move gun control legislation through the U.S. Congress. And please take a look at the links and information below.

I especially encourage you to make time to listen to Anderson Cooper read the names and share brief information about those who died in a nightclub in Orlando.

By sharing our shock, our grief and our resolve, we will find ways to heal and reduce violence in our communities.
CHAPTER ELECTION RESULTS!
Welcome to NASW-NJ Leadership!

As we announced last week, Tawanda Hubbard has been chosen President-Elect of our Chapter. Tawanda will serve in this role for one year, then assume the Presidency on July 1, 2017 when David Barry's term ends.

Other winners include: Vashonna Etienne, Board Secretary; Katie Findley, Central Regional Representative; Laura Rodgers, Southern Regional Representative; Tammy Smith, Graduate Student Representative; and Ashley Cameron, Undergraduate Student Representative. These new Board members will join the Board on July 1, 2016.

In addition, 3 new members of the Chapter Committee on Nominations and Leadership Identification (CCNLI) were elected. Congratulations to Elsa Candelario, Gia Leo and Khabir Williams who will work with other CCNLI members to identify next year's candidates for Chapter Election.

License Renewal
NJ License Renewal Notice Will be Coming By Mail

All NJ Social Work Licenses & Certifications are due for renewal this summer. Your license must be renewed by August 31, 2016 or you cannot work as a social worker in New Jersey.

Renewal notices for Social Work Licenses (LSW or LCSW) and Certifications (CSW) will arrive in the mail between June 15 and July 15. The notice will be sent from the Office of the Attorney General, Division of Consumer Affairs, not from the Board of Social Work Examiners (BSWE).

Please watch for this mailing. It will not be in a regular envelope. It looks like a check from the government (with tear strips on 3 sides).

License renewal is online only, but you will need your  notice in order to renew. This notice will provide you with unique instructions on how to renew your license or certification.

Watch newSWire or see the NASW-NJ Web site ( www.naswnj.org) for more information after July 1st.
