The First Snowman Project Is a Success

It was a lofty goal - fulfilling the holiday wishes of 100 children - but the Graduate Student Association (GSA) achieved it, in spades. The GSA hosted a holiday gift drive for Sheltering Arms, an organization working to strengthen the education, well-being, and development of vulnerable children, youth, and families across the New York metro area so that everyone has the support and opportunity needed to maximize their potential. A snowman trimmed with handwritten gift requests adorned the BSB lobby for members of the NYMC community to select and fulfill. A wrapping party was held on December 7 and 100 presents were delivered to the Sheltering Arms headquarters in New York City ready for distribution. The majority of the gifts were for students from an after-school program at a middle school in Far Rockaway, N.Y. The GSA officers, from left, were proud of their work and grateful for the support of the NYMC community. Joseph McCafferty, president; Charles White, vice president; Aaron Conway, chair of the Graduate Student Research Forum; Elizabeth Fischman, chair of community building; and Elizabeth Sira, treasurer. P2P Committee Recognizes Role Models at NYMC

The School of Medicine Peer to Peer (P2P) Committee is celebrating the exemplary students of NYMC with Professionals of NYMC, a forum for students to recognize each other as peer role models and showcase students who demonstrate the ideals valued most as future healthcare professionals. The initiative recognizes students in the NYMC community who embody the school's core graduation competencies, including outstanding acts of patient care, interpersonal and communication skills, collaboration and professionalism. It is the hope that Professionals of NYMC will inspire all members of the NYMC community to make a positive difference in the lives of others. During each edition, one selected winner per class will receive recognition in their Medical Student Performance Evaluation (MSPE) during the application to residency process. Have you seen a classmate do something awesome and inspiring? Send your nominations to [email protected]. Read more about the Professionals of NYMC....
