NYMC Commemorates Yom Hashaoh
The New York Medical College community commemorated Yom Hashaoh, Holocaust Remembrance Day, on April 17, with a powerful lecture by guest speaker
Howard Israel, D.D.S., second from right, who presented "The Origins of Pernkopf's Anatomy Atlas and The Role of Nazi Medicine in the Holocaust." Dr. Israel, professor of clinical surgery at Weill Cornell Medical College, adjunct professor and course director for pain and anxiety control at Touro College of Dental Medicine at New York Medical College, and director of the New York Institute of Clinical Oral Pathology, is internationally known for his work as a clinical researcher and expert in the field of temporomandibular joint disorders, surgery and arthroscopy. He is regarded as an important voice in bioethics for his key role in the discovery and recognition of the Nazi origins of the famous classic anatomy book,
Pernkopf's Anatomy, leading to many other discoveries and issues surrounding biomedical ethics. View the

Camille A. Clare, M.D., M.P.H. '11, Receives 2018 AMWA Gender Equity Award
Camille A. Clare, M.D., M.P.H. '11, center, associate dean of diversity and inclusion for the School of Medicine and associate professor of obstetrics and gynecology, was honored with the 2018 Gender Equity Award from the College's chapter of the American Medical Women's Association (AMWA). AMWA co-presidents,
Emily Convery, left, and
Evelyn Orlando, presented Dr. Clare with the award in the presence of the College community at reception on April 16. In addition, her name will be added to the roster of past winners on a plaque hanging outside of the Cooke auditorium.

2018 NYMed Talks Addresses "Medicine and Society, Our Moral Compass"
This year's NYMed Talks held on April 13, captivated the audience with guest speakers covering the thought-provoking topics of the opioid crisis, race and gender in medicine, medical student and physician mental health, gun violence and health care for the homeless. SHSP Hosts Talk on Pollution and the Health of the Planet by Leading Authority on Children's Health
The School of Health Sciences and Practice welcomed guest speaker
Philip J. Landrigan, M.D., M.Sc., left, dean for global health, professor of preventive medicine and pediatrics, Arnhold Institute for Global Health, Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. Dr. Landrigan, an epidemiologist and pediatrician and one of the world's leading advocates of children's health, presented "Pollution and the Health of the Planet" on April 18. He shared the results of his work on the Lancet Commission on Pollution and Health, an initiative of
The Lancet, the Global Alliance on Health and Pollution, and the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, in conjunction with the United Nations Environment, United Nations Industrial Development Organization and the World Bank. He was welcomed by, from left:
Robert W. Amler, M.D., M.B.A., dean of the School of Health Sciences and Practice and vice president for government affairs;
Amy Ansehl, M.S.N., D.N.P., FNP-BC, assistant dean, associate professor of public health practice, executive director of the Partnership for a Healthy Population, assistant professor of family and community medicine and Director of Community Education and Outreach, Children's Environmental Health Center of the Hudson Valley; and
Allen J. Dozor, M.D., professor of pediatrics and clinical public health, chief of pediatric pulmonology, allergy and sleep medicine and director, Children's Environmental Health Center of the Hudson Valley.

NYMC Goes Blue for National Autism Awareness Month
Sporting all hues of blue the New York Medical College community showed their support for National Autism Awareness month and joined for a group photo on April 18.

Members of the Department of Pharmacology participated in the 17th International Winter Eicosanoid Conference (WEC) held in Baltimore on March 11-13. The meeting was founded and co-organized in 1998 by the late John C. McGiff, M.D., former chairman of the Department of Pharmacology, as an annual forum for the exchange of ideas and learning of exciting new developments in the field of eicosanoids with a focus on cancer, inflammation, diabetes, hypertension, renal and cardiovascular disease. As of 2012, it became a biennial meeting. Michal L. Schwartzman, Ph.D., professor and chair of the Department of Pharmacology, is a co-organizer of this meeting and in her capacity as editor-in-chief of the journal Prostaglandins and Other Lipid Mediators (PrOLM) served as co-chair of the PrOLM Young Investigators Session in which the four recipients of the PrOLM Young Investigator Awards present their data.
