West Park Kiwanis Club Independence Day Parade

West Park Kiwanis Club officials advise that Lorain Avenue will be closed to traffic starting at 9 a.m. on Monda y morning for the parade that steps off from Kamms Plaza at 9:30 a.m. on Monday July 4.

The Parade Marshall this year is Commander Thomas McCartney of the Cleveland Police First District. The National Anthem will be performed by Hannah Rutkowski, a sophomore at St. Joseph Academy.

The parade route will travel east on Lorain Avenue, making a sharp left onto West Park Road then turning south on Rocky River Dive bringing the parade back to Kamms Plaza. Grab your family, friends, pets and a blanket or chair to join your West Park neighbors in celebrating America's birthday!


Asphalt Cinema at Impett Park - Friday July 15

The fun begins at 6:30 p.m. on Friday July 15 at Impett Park, 3207 West 153rd Street, with children's games provided by local merchants. In addition, there will be the pork chop speedway, art activities, hair chalking, balloon creatures, and more. Bring your lawn chairs and blankets for an evening that ends under the stars with the movie Inside Out at dusk.  
 
 
Beverages, hot dogs, and popcorn will be available for purchase from West Denison Baseball League. The film and fun activities are FREE of charge thanks to our Asphalt Cinema sponsor, Fairview Hospital along with a grant from Cuyahoga Arts & Culture.

Kamm's Corners Farmers Market Chef Demo 
 
Pork fans unite! Regular vendor and Greek Chef Extraordinaire Steve Nikolakis of City Club Catering will be doing a very special chef demonstration this Sunday, July 3 at 11:30 a.m.
 
Steve will bring his Cyprus made, rotisserie grill out to the chef demo tent. There, over lump charcoal, he will prepare a center cut pork loin marinated in Greek spic es, along with some smaller shish kabob's and chicken for sampling.
 
Steve is a meat expert, and the man behind the awesome food at the Cretan Center's Kamm's Corners Greek Fest held annually on Labor Day weekend. You won't want to miss a taste of this special treat, basted in its own juices as the rotisserie spins.
 
Stop by at 11:30 a.m. this Sunday, July 3 , for the spectacle and a taste of the extraordinary!

Kamm's Corners Farmers Market offers a weekly opportunity to purchase fresh produce, listen to live music, watch a cooking demonstration, pick up an interesting piece of art or a unique craft, and talk with your neighbors. Now in it's 10th season, the market is held every Sunday through October 9 at 16900 Albers Avenue, Cleveland.

Crayons and coloring books for kids are being collected at Savor the Moment, 4080 Rocky River Drive, through the end of June for children living at Laura's Home, 18120 Puritas Avenue. It's a crisis center and shelter that offers a bridge for women and children moving to a better life. A happy hour benefit concert to benefit the Women's Outreach Center of River's Edge will be held on Friday July 22 5-7 p.m. at St. Joseph Academy, 3470 Rocky River Drive. Tickets are $35 per person and include appetizers, wine and beer. Click here for more information or to purchase tickets.

Calling all community leaders! The Neighborhood Leadership Development Program is community engagement training program for residents of Cleveland and its inner ring suburbs, who are working on projects within the City of Cleveland. Click here to learn more about this 15-session program that starts on Saturday, August 27, and continues on Saturdays at Trinity Commons, 2230 Euclid Avenue. 
 
West Park United Church of Christ, 3909 Rocky River Drive, serves a community meal at 11:30 a.m. in Bartter Hall on the fourth Sunday of every month, free of charge. All are welcome.

Neighborhood Connections offers small grants to groups of residents in Cleveland to do projects that improve the quality of life in the communities. Grants range from $500 to $5,000. The next grant deadline is 5 p.m. on Friday August 12. Read more about the requirements here.
