28 May 2013
Greetings!

The South Bend Tribune recently wrote a small profile of South Bend Community Schools radio station WETL (91.7fm, South Bend).

Northwest

Eastcentral

Backyard Broadcasting sells its Muncie/Anderson cluster to a newly formed company: Woof Boom Radio for $4.45 million.  Woof Boom will begin operating the stations via LMA on June 1.  The cluster includes Hot AC/WLBC (104.1fm, Muncie), Sports/WXFN(AM) (1340am, Muncie) and translator W275AJ (102.9fm, Muncie), Oldies/WERK (104.9fm, Muncie), Talk/WHBU (1240am, Anderson) and the Classic Rock duo of WMQX/WMXQ (96.7fm, Alexandria; 93.5fm, Hartford City).  Former Emmis/Indianapolis Director of Sales J Chapman heads Woof Boom Radio.  The new company name is derived from former Indianapolis radio and TV station WFBM, where Mr. Chapman's father (Jerry Chapman) was GM for many years.

Race and Vanessa Ashlyn both exit Vox/Marion.  Mr. Ashlyn was GM there, while Mrs. Ashlyn did middays for Vox's Country/WCJC (99.3fm, Van Buren).  Bryan Spies replaces Mr. Ashlyn in the GM chair.  Sam Adams replaces Mrs. Ashlyn in middays.

Greenfield Police arrested veteran religious broadcaster Marty Hensley, after noticing his shoulder handgun holster while Mr. Hensley visited Harris Elementary School to join his children for lunch.  When police checked Mr. Hensley's vehicle in the school parking lot, they allegedly found a semi-automatic hand gun in plain view.  Greenfield detective J.D. Fortner told Indianapolis' WTHR-TV:

"The law allows a person to have a gun in their vehicle if they're on school property if they're dropping off or picking up their child. If they're gonna be spending any amount of time at the school longer than that drop-off period or pick-up period, that's when it becomes a violation of the law."

During a court appearance, a judge told Mr. Hensley to give all of his weapons to police, and not to visit any schools within the Greenfield-Central School Corp.

Central

Employment Opportunities

Emmis Communications' WIBC/Indianapolis is reloading with more live and local talk programming. Our next afternoon host will talk about things that make others talk about them... someone that understands the difference between displaying/relating conservative sensibilities vs. ideology alone. If you want the job, you'll need to be as comfortable talking about Mark Zuckerberg as Marco Rubio and Ryan Lochte as Paul Ryan. If you can connect the dots on what commonalities make both "The O'Reilly Factor" and "Chelsea Lately" work you could be ready to pull off the kind of show we are looking for. Insatiable curiosity required. Amaze us with your demo, writing examples, and anything else that conveys why your skills and talents will keep us relevant through the next decade. Send to dwood at indy dot emmis dot com.
