Neighborhoods, USA (NUSA) named the Fletcher Place Neighborhood Association in Indianapolis the 2016 Grand Prize winner of the Neighborhood of the Year (NOTY) Award at its luncheon held Friday, May 27 at the 41st annual NUSA conference in Memphis, Tenn.

Finishing in first place in the Social Revitalization category of the annual  NOTY competition, the inaugural Virginia Avenue Folk Fest featured 70 live acts on 9 stages and welcomed more than 10,000 visitors to the Fletcher Place neighborhood. The family-friend festival introduced the young, as well as the young at heart, to Americana, bluegrass and folk music, while also promoting local businesses. The event also raised funds for and awareness of the non-profit group Trusted Mentors.

During Friday's luncheon, NUSA also awarded the first place prize in the Physical Revitalization category of the NOTY competition to the Historic Kenwood Neighborhood Association in St. Petersburg, Fla. The neighborhood's Partnership Program brings together neighborhoods and local community vounteers with physically- and/or financially-challenged homeowners to make much-needed exterior home repairs and yard clean-ups. In 2015, the program revitalized six Historic Kenwood homes and assisted two adjoining neighborhoods to begin similar programs.
