Resiliency is the word for this school year!

We were challenged in big ways, but what we learned from the experiences we had this year is invaluable, and these lessons have been instrumental in helping us to grow as a school and as individuals.

Thank you to our staff, each of whom contribute something unique to the living, breathing entity that is Blue Mountain School.

Carol Volker, Office Manager: Thank you for your dedication to speaking up about what is important, in so many ways. I'm so grateful to share my work and life with you!

Stefi Schafer, Early Childhood: Thank you for knowing what preschoolers need and for advocating for them inside and outside of school, and thank you for helping us all to have respect for the work and play of our youngest children.

Ashley Morales, Early Childhood: Thank you for taking the time to truly get to know each of your students as individuals. Your students know that you see them for who they are and that they matter. What a gift!

Hari Berzins, Kindergarten: Thank you for showing us how to take the risk of trying something new and for helping us to remember that it is okay to show the world your real, true self.

Jenni Heartway, Lower Elementary: Thank you for your calm, steady, smiling presence and for the many insights--informed by experience and training--that you have contributed this year. Thank you for speaking up about things that matter to you.

Virginia Klara, Literacy and Middle Elementary: Thank you for supporting our students in so many different roles. Thank you for helping us to remember to be proud of our colorful history and for serving as a community ambassador for our school.

Miranda Altice, Middle Elementary: Thank you for helping your students challenge themselves both academically and socially. Thank you for sharing your own growth and changes with them, authentically. This is real life!

Inge Terrill, Middle Elementary and Upper Elementary: Thank you for modeling resiliency for us all, and thank you for giving your students the space to study areas of science that are interesting for each of them. This is what learning is all about!

Brien Egan, Upper Elementary: Thank you for your patience and humor and your seemingly endless capacity to not take things personally. In the words of one student, "We've learned a lot because Brien likes us!"

Lore Deighan, Art: Thank you for taking the time to help your students find their own inspiration, so that they can create art that is meaningful for each of them. Thank you for witnessing their growth as artists.

Sarah McCarthy, Yoga and PE: Thank you for helping us to remember the light in us, both as a school and as individuals. You help us to know where we came from, and your playfulness and laughter is inspiring!

Jagadisha Rotella, Contemplative Studies: Thank you for helping us all learn how good it feels to really get to know ourselves through sitting quietly and breathing...and playing...and breathing...and playing! You show us the value of both.

Katie Wells, Creative Expression: Thank you for encouraging our students to have the courage express themselves thoughtfully, but not too seriously. It's been such fun to see you 'come into your own' as a teacher.

The Blue Mountain School Board has decided to close its high school at the end of the 2013-2014 school year.  A new alternative high school is being developed by the current high school staff as a new entity (unaffiliated with BMS) and will be opening at the Floyd EcoVillage in September 2014.

Please welcome our newly elected Trustees: Andrew Volker, Melodie Pogue, Miranda Altice, Jessi Howell, Warren Lapine, and Rick Parris. Brien Egan is the new teacher representative to the Board

The Board will meet on Wednesday, June 11, at 6:30 in the BMS enrichment room. The public is welcome to attend.

In Gratitude We Thank

Agatha Grimsley
