Indigo Messenger
Hiya

It may be summer, but Blue Mountain School is still buzzing! We just wrapped up two weeks of summer camp, and we have one more week to go! Teachers are already drafting lesson plans and preparing classrooms, the Board has a full agenda, and the folks in the office are slowly ticking off items on a long list of tasks to be completed before students return in a few short weeks.

Don't worry! We are all making sure to take time for rest and fun as we enjoy these wonderful summer days. We hope you are, too!

Stay tuned to your email and our Facebook group for more information and pictures relating to our school.

Scholarship Fund Drive
Board Development Committee

We want to make a Blue Mountain School education affordable for every student who wants to attend. Last year alone BMS provided $23,000 in scholarships and discounts. Please help us raise $30,000 for scholarships for the 2012-2013 school year. (Keep your eye on the website and watch the scholarship fund grow!)

Any amount -- $10, $50, $100, $500, $1000, it doesn't matter -- will help us get closer to our goal. If you can donate something towards this worthwhile cause, you're welcome to click on the Donate link at www.bluemountainschool.net, or to send a check to the school at 470 Christiansburg Pike NE, Floyd, VA 24091.

If you are local, please visit the Exxon/Circle K in Floyd and donate a dollar at check-out to support Blue Mountain School. One hundred percent of the dollar added to your transaction will be given to our school. Be sure to thank Circle K for supporting local education!

Summer Camp
Cassie Pierce and Corey Avellar

Circus Arts Camp and Medieval Camp were a wild success!  What a wonderful way to start the summer! Kids learned many wonderful new skills like how to juggle, slackline, stilt walk, barrel walk, cook medieval foods, and make swords, bows, and shields. We held the first ever Blue Mountain School Circus, and the grounds were graced with a knight challenge course and a medieval feast, where campers were knighted by Queen Cassie!

Thank you to everyone who helped make these camps happen, and we look forward to seeing everyone back August 6 for Summer Survival Camp!

New Programs for 2012-13
BMS Office

The Board and staff are working on several new programs for 2012-13 that we hope will make the upcoming school year even more successful than the previous. Please watch the website, Facebook, and your email for more details about these programs!

Referral Program
Currently enrolled families may receive a $250 tuition credit (up to $500) when they refer a family who enrolls at least one new child as a BMS student (does not apply to Friday enrichment students). New students are children who have not attended BMS since 2009.

Friday Enrichment Sessions

BMS will be offering optional Friday classes starting this September for ages 5-12. Students do not need to be enrolled in the regular school semester to sign up for Friday Enrichment.

Two six-week sessions will be offered in the fall semester, and three are planned for the winter/spring semester. Each session will focus on two enrichment areas such as forensics, photography, or gardening.

PEAPS

Children ages 2-5 and their parents are welcome to join our new Parenting Education, Art, Play, and Support program (PEAPS) starting this fall. PEAPS will meet on Fridays during the school year from 9:00 to 11:00. While the little ones are busy with one of our teachers, parents will enjoy educational workshops, discussions, and parenting support.

Punch cards will be available for purchase starting at the end of the summer. The punch cards allow you to attend five sessions of your choice for $50.

We hope you enjoyed reading the Indigo Messenger.

Board of Trustees

Please welcome our new Board Members: Kerry Vandergrift and Jamie Reygle!

The Blue Mountain School Board met twice in June to discuss fundraising and PR opportunities and has been hard at work this summer with fundraiser tasks and PR events.

The Board discussed the progress and successes of the scheduled summer camps and reviewed the proposed 2012-2013 academic calendar. Also, a committee was formed to handle the logistics of next year's Friday enrichment programs.

Other topics reviewed were the purchase of the school property, a referral incentive program for next year, and the need to fill a development coordinator staff position.

The Board is scheduled to meet next on Wednesday, July 18 at 6pm.
