Advocating for Gun Control and Hurricane Relief
Industrial Corridor Development Update
Fall Celebrations
Dear Neighbor,

In light of the horrific shooting in Las Vegas, we again join the calls for effective gun control. There is something you can do  - join  the  Illinois Council Against Handgun Violence in supporting passage of SB1657, the Illinois Gun Dealer Licensing Act.  The law, already passed in the Illinois Senate, is awaiting a vote in the Illinois House of Representatives.  Sign the petition  here, and urge your friends to contact their state legislators, which can be identified  here. You can also find a synopsis of the law here.

In wake of the devastating impacts of Hurricanes Maria, H arvey, and Irma and the earthquake in Mexico City, the City has identified several relief organizations for donations.See   cityofchicago.org/DisasterRelief Please help.

Locally, stop by the Bourgeois Pig, 736 W. Fullerton for great coffee and also get a pumpkin - profits go to hurricane relief.

Industrial Corridor Development Update

Sterling Bay concept drawing. Courtesy of DNAinfo

Renderings of Sterling Bay's vision for the North Branch Industrial Corridor were unveiled to a small crowd last week. While the developer seems willing to pledge to include 10 acres of open space to the site plans, there is no commitment for contiguous parkland of at least 15 acres, with 10 acres committed to recreational fields, in the vast 750-acre development area.  Unfortunately, the renderings that were shown to the pubic omitted buildings that would have accurately revealed the type of mixed-use and volume of density the developer is seeking.

In light of this most recent development update, we will continue to advocate for meaningful open space to adequately serve the new population and surrounding communities. Please join your neighbors in the fight for open space and sign the online petition here
