Dear Pro-Life Supporters,

Senator Anitere Flores has been one of the most outspoken pro-life members of the Florida legislature in recent history. She has worked tirelessly on behalf of the unborn in Florida during her time in public office.

2013 is no different. Senator Flores and newly elected Representative Pigman have filed SB 1636 and HB 1129 the Infants Born Alive Act.

This important legislation will put into Florida law the required medical care of an infant born alive during an abortion procedure. Currently, no medical care or treatment is required for an infant who is born alive during a botch abortion.       SB 1636 and HB 1129 will put into statute these important provisions:

  • Provides that infant born alive during or immediately after attempted abortion is entitled to same rights, powers, & privileges as any other child born alive in course of natural birth;
  • Requires health care practitioners to preserve life & health of such infant born alive, if possible;
  • Provides for transport & admittance of infant to hospital; provides certain services for infant;
  • Requires health care practitioner or employees who have knowledge of any violations with respect to infants born alive after attempted abortion to report those violations to Department of Health (DOH)
  • Provides penalty.

Florida Right to Life is thankful for this important life saving legislation and will work hard this session to see it passed into law.
