BioNJ Study Looks Beyond Biotech Sector, Finding Contributions, Needs of NJ's Life Sciences Industry

Trenton, NJ - Recognizing the continuing evolution of New Jersey's life sciences industry, BioNJ yesterday released a comprehensive report that documents the ongoing growth of the biotechnology sector in the State and combines and assesses the contributions of the entirety of the life sciences sector to New Jersey's economy, including employment and economic impact.

New Brunswick, NJ - The New Jersey Big Data Alliance (NJBDA) became the State's Advanced Cyber-infrastructure Consortium as of last month. Gov. Chris Christie signed New Jersey's first "Big Data Bill" (A2218/S582), spearheaded by Assemblyman Upendra Chivukula. The Alliance later won the 2014 G2G Award from Government Management Information Sciences International for serving as an example of how governments should be expanding their reach in their delivery of public services.

NJ IT will use drones to support disaster recovery

Cape May, NJ - New Jersey Institute of Technology has partnered with the Delaware River and Bay Authority to make the Cape May Airport a hub of unmanned drone research.

According to the PressofAtlanticCity.com, "The airport is ideally suited for this research, officials said, because of its low air traffic and easy access to testing waters over the Atlantic Ocean."

NSF launches competitions for community college students

Arlington, VA, September 30, 2014 - According to an article by the State Science and Technology Institute, "The National Science Foundation (NSF) launched Community College Innovation Challenge - a Science Technology Engineering & Mathematics (STEM)-focused competition for teams comprised of up to five community college students, a faculty mentor, and a community/industry partner."

Higher Education Groups submit suggestions for White House Innovation Strategy

Washington, DC - In response to the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy and the National Economic Council's request for information, several higher education associations submitted comments on updating a 2011 Obama administration policy document, Strategy for American Innovation.
