Give the Plate
NISGUA logo This week's Give the Plate offering supports UUCA's partnership with NISGUA--the Network in Solidarity with the People of Guatemala.  Our church, through its Partners for Arlington and Guatemala (PAG), has sponsored a total of 17 human rights Accompaniers in collaboration with NISGUA since 2007.  Our 18th accompanier, Clara Lincoln, leaves for Guatemala this June.  These remarkable young adults spent at least six months in Guatemala as part of an international team of accompaniers. They monitor tense situations and provide a presence to deter the violence and intimidation that faces human rights defenders.  Accompaniers are also present in communities opposing multi-national mining, hydroelectric and agribusiness projects that seize indigenous communal lands without permission, exploit the local resources and irreparably harm the local environment and economy. Your GTP offerings during May fund the monthly stipend that our accompaniers receive to cover their room and board, in-country travel and emergency medical coverage.  Without your generous support, UUCA could not be a Sponsoring Community. Many Hands Needed for Rev. Linda Appreciation Party
Sunday, May 21
Rev. Linda will be leaving UUCA at the end of June and we want to let her know how much we have appreciated her 16 years with us! And, that requires a big party! We need many hands for food prep on Saturday, May 20 and on Sunday, May 21, for greeting, for setting up the reception, and for clean up. We also need a few folks to collect notes for Rev. Linda on Sundays after services. Sign up here to help or contact Elizabeth Fogarty,  [email protected].
Let's Wrap UUCA in a Rainbow for Pride Week
gay flags Mark your calendar for Saturday morning, June 3. It's the beginning of Capital Pride Week and it's for a rainbow flag "planting" party. Equality UUCA invites you to join in a fundraiser/pride-raiser. Let's wrap UUCA in a rainbow for Capital Pride Week in June! Stop by the Equality UUCA table any Sunday in May to sponsor a rainbow flag for $5/flag. Flags will have labels to write a dedication or message. Will we have enough rainbow flags to make it all the way around the church? We'll find out!  Will we have a big, bold, public reminder of UUCA's commitment to the inherent worth and dignity of ALL people? YES! For more information, contact Elizabeth Fogarty at [email protected].

Friday, May 26, 7:30 p.m.
Reparations. What a loaded word!  Ta-Nehisi Coates confronts this topic head-on in an Atlantic Monthly article "The Case for Reparations."  As we read about redlining, poverty, crime, and other factors, how do we react? Find this article here. Or, learn more about Mr. Coates and his book Between the World and Me by reading the article "A Generation Waking Up" by Brit Bennett. Both articles address our history and how history affects black and white America. Join us on May 26  at 7:30 at UUCA to consider our own thoughts and reactions.  For more information contact Pat Findikoglu, [email protected] or Linda Lutes Corsoro[email protected].

Wellspring Wednesday: Special for Parents
On Wednesday, May 17, UUCA's Legacy team is sponsoring an information session with Arlington attorney Betsey Wildhack on end-of-life and estate planning for parents of young children. Come with your questions about how best to provide for the people and causes you care about--just in case you don't live as long as we all hope you will! UUCAer Chad Ohlandt will facilitate. For this session only, we've arranged special timing. 5:00 childcare opens; 5:30 fill your own plate and bring it to the Board Room; 5:45 session begins; 6:45 option to attend brief worship OR to stay for questions and discussion; 7:15 session ends. Please register here for Your Legacy, Your Family, Your Decision. Although this session targets the particular needs of parents with young children, all are welcome to register. This is one of several information sessions being sponsored by UUCA's Legacy team; the first, for Boomers, took place earlier this spring.
Holistic Moms and Decision-making

MoonFire Beltane Ritual
Sunday, May 21, 1:30 p.m.
Please join MoonFire for a ritual celebrating Beltane, a time to honor the re-emergence of life after the barrenness of winter.  We will give thanks to the Goddess and God for the bounty they provide and celebrate the coming season of warmth and growth.  As always, a potluck and time for fellowship will follow the ritual, so please bring a dish or drink to share, along with your own plates/utensils, if possible, so that we may minimize trash.  For more information on MoonFire, please visit www.moonfireuuca.org or contact  [email protected]
Save the Date
Mark Tuesday, June 13 on your calendar! At 7:00 p.m., we'll gather for an exhilarating process to brainstorm new ideas (and begin to plan) for how to support UUCA financially in the future. What do YOU think we should do? What would YOU do to help? Watch for more details soon.

Ohlandt.
A Mountain Get-a-Away Fall Retreat

Enjoy discussions and workshops, communal meals, fun and games from Scrabble to shuffleboard, hiking and birdwatching (and even polar-bear bathing in Capon Springs' famously icy pool).
