Message from Councilmember
Steven Neal
Hello
neighbors,
This holiday
season, the communities of the Ninth District have a lot to be
thankful for.
I am grateful for family and good friends. I am thankful for a
terrific and committed Ninth District staff team. And I am
especially grateful for the opportunity to serve such a dynamic and
hardworking community as we work together in the years to come to
"Build a Better Ninth District" and a better city of Long
Beach.
But as we enjoy our Thanksgiving holiday, please remember that each
of us has a commitment to help those who are less fortunate. This
Thanksgiving, please consider assisting those in need by
volunteering or contributing to a local food bank.
Here are two local food banks with volunteer opportunities:
www.foodfinders.org
www.foodbankofsocal.org
Lastly, in these difficult economic times, I am thankful to have
had the opportunity to work with Assemblymember Isadore Hall to
deliver 50 Turkeys to North Long Beach families who otherwise may
not have been able to enjoy a Thanksgiving dinner this year.

Sincerely,

Thanksgiving
in the 9th District
This year, the Ninth District has been host to
numerous Thanksgiving activities.
On Saturday November 20, Andy Street Multi-family Improvement
District hosted a "Community Clean-up and Thanksgiving Fest. Ninth
District families received turkey baskets, grocery store vouchers,
and participated in games and activities for the whole
family.
Also, this Tuesday, Councilmember Steven Neal and Councilmember
Dee Andrews partnered with Long Beach native and NFL star, Willie
McGinnis and the Long Beach Browns to assist 100 Long Beach
families with Thanksgiving dinner.
The community waited with great anticipation as they exchanged
their letters of support from the council offices to receive a $100
gift card to Albertson's. While shopping, the Long Beach Browns
Little league football team assisted with picking up heavy items,
pushing their basket, and even assistance to the car. Although the
event was small it made a significant difference for Long Beach
families in need.
Happy Thanksgiving!
