Message from Councilmember
Steven Neal
Hello
neighbors,
This
week's council meeting, we weighed the idea of making
changes to the existing medical marijuana ordinance. I am pleased
to say that we successfully defeated a proposal to restrict
cultivation sites to Industrial Zones, which would place a
significantly disproportionate amount of the city's cultivation
sites in the Ninth District.
Secondly, I co-sponsored an item, along with Councilmembers James
Johnson and Gary DeLong to schedule a study session to consider a
long-term financial plan for our city's future. In the month's to
come, we hope to take steps to integrate the community into the
planning process, should the council decide to move forward.
I would like to let you know that I will be working with
Councilmembers Lowenthal and Johnson and the L.A. Shares program. This
program takes tax-deductible donations of reusable goods and
materials and distributes them to non-profit organizations and
schools across Los Angeles.
Finally, I want to share with you some good news. I will be working
with Jim Lewis and the Rescue Mission in bringing a winter shelter to
the Ninth District. It will be at the old Atlantic Farms site and
this is a perfect location for a winter shelter.
Take some time to read the latest news and updates in your
community in the rest of the newsletter.

Sincerely,
Steven Neal

Ninth
District Night at The Aquarium
The
Ninth District Night at the Aquarium was a huge success. Residents,
families, and friends from all over Long Beach had a great time,
learning about marine life, listening to great music, and getting
plenty of valuable information from more than 20 informational
booths. Look out for more exciting programs and opportunities in
the years to come.To view more images from that night, just click
