A Weekly Note from Mayor Gary L. Graham
For the first time in twenty years, a mayoral election took place in O'Fallon, and my name did not appear on the ballot. It was a very bittersweet moment for me as I cast my vote. I am going to enjoy my retirement, but I would not trade my twenty years serving as your Mayor for anything.

One of my very favorite quotes is by Robert Baden-Powell, founder of the World Scouting Movement. It is very simple, very short, and very true advice:

"Leave this world a little better than you found it."

Construction Updates
Green Mount Road:  The Green Mount Road project has officially started! This improvement between Regency Park and Highway 50 will include 4-lanes with a planted median and intermediate turn lanes. The project will also consist of a new signalized intersection at Cambridge Boulevard, which will serve as the main entrance to the new St. Elizabeth's Medical Campus. In addition to the street improvements, a ten-foot wide bicycle/walking path will be installed on the west side of Green Mount Road -- providing a continuous pedestrian access route from Regency Park to the Family Sports Park and the Illini Bike Trail. Two-way traffic on Green Mount Road is expected to be maintained throughout construction. The project is scheduled to be completed on November 1, 2017, weather permitting.

Cambridge Boulevard: Cambridge Boulevard, between North Green Mount Road and Indian Creek Drive, is closed to through traffic until May 2017 for construction related to the entrance to the new St. Elizabeth's Medical Campus. Access will be maintained to all businesses with entrances on Cambridge during the closure.

Seven Hills Road Sidewalk: Construction on the sidewalk, between Wildwood Drive and Carriel Junior High School started on February 20 and is expected to last until June 30, weather permitting. Lane restrictions will occur at times during construction.

Illini Bike Trail and Sidewalk Improvements:  Most of the sidewalk along the west side of Lincoln Avenue has been installed. The planned shoulder improvements on Lincoln, south of Highway 50, are now under construction.

Inside O'Fallon Update from the City Administrator
In previous blogs, I discussed the budget structure and revenues, now I can move on to proposed expenditures in the annual budget. Unlike the federal government, cities cannot budget in a deficit and revenues must meet expenses. Therefore, we are required by law to have a balanced budget. This is more difficult in some years than others, depending on how your revenues are structured.
