Meet Author Rita Garcia
Allow me to introduce Rita Garcia, author of Tangerine Morning.

I had the opportunity to interview her this month.

Rita says in her bio that "Love, Lit by the Flame of Hope, is the theme that permeates her inspirational writings."

That's why I decided to start out by asking her what draws her toward the theme of romance.

Rita: From a young age I enjoyed reading a good romance story. Then there were the fairy tales. I watched them with my daughters, and now how exciting to watch them again with my granddaughter. Yet, that happily ever after path, like most areas of our lives, often include conflicts and struggles. While romance is a big part of my novels, hope is an even larger element of the stories I write. With God's guidance we can overcome and achieve the best life that, I believe, God designed for each of us.

Have you ever experienced a real life place like Serenity Cove?

Rita: The Serenity Cove novels are set in a small fictional seaside community. The novels are contemporary mixed with the flavor and charm of small-town America. Although I'm sure it shares many similarities with places I enjoy. I grew up surfing and frolicking in the ocean-I love the beach. The ocean is one of the reasons I adore living in Southern California. And Maui with its wonderful beaches is a favorite vacation spot for my husband and I.

How many books do you foresee in the Serenity Cove Series?

Rita: Book three of the Serenity Cove Series, Lavender Rain, Maggie's Story, is set to release later this year. I've received so many comments from readers wanting to read more about townspeople in this series that the stories could be unlimited.  I've also received requests from readers wanting more stories from the planet Belletroya, from the novella, Christmas Future.

While I am not sure of the exact number of novels in the Serenity Cove series, or if a spin-off series will materialize. I consider it a privilege and joy to weave stories about places and people that warm my heart and soul.

What message do you hope to convey through this story and ultimately through this series?

Rita: I refer to the Serenity Cove novels as Hope Filled Fiction. Life often takes us on paths that are filled with twists and turns that cause us to struggle and sometimes lose our way. Through Christ we always find hope. This is the basis of the stories that take place in Serenity Cove. The characters that take center stage will climb right into the reader's heart and have you cheering them on.

Thank you for taking the time to visit with me Rita.

Choosing to Praise by Michelle Urdak

Psalm 28:7 "The Lord is my Strength and my [impenetrable] Shield; my heart trusts in, relies on, and confidently leans on Him, and I am helped; therefore my heart greatly rejoices, and with my song will I praise Him."

Where do you turn when life throws you a curve ball? Do you lose your footing when you hit a bump in the road? Or do you keep your eyes on the Father?

It was an exciting day. We were getting to have dinner with my husband, a rarity with his hours. The kids were chatting about the upcoming evening. When I pulled into my husband's work, he met me at the car with news that did not match our current mood.  Suddenly, I was out of breath. That single piece of news left me with a decision to make. I could panic, start worrying, and become angry that this was happening, or I could confidently lean on Him.

This verse in Psalms is so much prettier when things are going great! It's easy to rejoice when the wind is at your back and there is smooth sailing ahead. When the storm rages and the waves threaten to overwhelm, then what? Where is the rejoicing and praising? He is still God. He is still on the throne!

Casting Crowns has a song titled "Praise You in This Storm." The lyrics are challenging:

"And I'll praise You in this storm and I will lift my hands

For You are who You are no matter where I am

And every tear I've cried You hold in Your hand

You never left my side and though my heart is torn

I will praise You in this storm"

I know that my God is faithful. I know that He holds the future. Today, I will choose to praise Him in both the good and the bad. I will keep my eyes on Him!

I will say with confidence "The Lord is my Strength and my [impenetrable] Shield; my heart trusts in, relies on, and confidently leans on Him, and I am helped; therefore my heart greatly rejoices, and with my song will I praise Him."

Michelle Urdak is a volunteer Assistant in the CWA Radio division of CWA. You can learn more about her on her blog, Creatively Crunchy Mom.

This month I ask you to join me as I focus my prayers on our friends and loved ones who have not yet accepted our Lord. As the colors turn to that crisp autumn orange let's be reminded to pray that those we love will turn back to their Creator.

Blessings,
