ALASKA PURE
An Accidental Passion

Jim and Darcy Michener love the wilderness. And that is where the "accident" occurred. On a cold April morning in a remote Alaskan cabin, on the woodstove, sat a pan of water. Water with sea salt crystals. Their curiosity could not resist the discovery and they were drawn to create more. So, back home in Sitka, Alaska, they experimented, and experimented, and experimented. For years they lugged sea water, tested, refined batch after batch until, after much trial and error and diligence, they succeeded in their desire-turned-passion to make the first flake-style salt in North America. Their beautiful flakes are deliciously clean-flavored, crisp, fresh with a touch of sweet, without a drop of bitterness.

Alaska Pure Sea Salt glimmers. Sprinkle it every day on your finished dishes or salads, on any sweet or savory fare. This is not a salt to be used in cooking, as you would miss the crisp texture in each bite of food. Use sparingly, as this salt delivers much flavor that lingers. The Alaska Pure
Alder Smoked Sea Salt is texturally similar to the white Sea Salt flakes, but the flavor is light and subtle, yet rich. This is a perfect salt to use when you want a delicate hand with the smoke flavor. It is wonderful on seafood of all types, steaks, chicken and pork, sliced apples or pears, and popcorn. Both will brighten up your baked goods; scatter a touch on top before baking.

We are very excited to add their labor of love, Alaska Pure, to the Salt Traders range of products. Hand-crafted from the pristine waters of the Gulf of Alaska, we know you will fall in love as the Michener's did. And every year they return to the wilderness that sparked their passion for sea salt.
