1. Better Timeliness – Beginning in November, the
Island Creek Express
will be published monthly at the start of each month, and it will let you know about upcoming community events, HOA news and other helpful information. So you’ll be in-the-know about what’s happening in Island Creek at the start of each month!
2. Efficiency – The online delivery format means that we can create and deliver the Island Creek Express with greater ease and efficiency.
3. Links for More Information – Many articles in the Island Creek Express will contain links where you can get more information on a topic of interest.
4. Lower Cost – This new format is less costly to produce and deliver to you, even with a monthly distribution schedule instead of the prior bi-monthly schedule.
Our goal is to create a useful, timely, effective and informative newsletter for you. And we are always looking for ways to improve the Island Creek Express.
So look for upcoming enhancements over the coming months. And, if you have an idea for improvement, we would love to hear from you! Please send your ideas, comments and questions to: [email protected].

Annual Meeting
Our Annual Meeting was held on Thursday 9/29. Supervisor Jeff McKay and Police Officer Eggers were the guest speakers. For the first year in a while, we had a quorum. Board election results: Michael Hunsicker was re-elected and new member Cory Cress was elected. (Both to three-years terms until 2019.)
Yard of the Year Awards
Congratulations to our 2016 Yard of the Year Award winners: Michaela Francis (Townhouses) and
Jim & Sally Batchelder (Single Family Homes). Second place finishes and honorable mentions went to: Eric & Veronica Williams, Joyce Parson, Kenneth & Phuon Littlefield, Mohammad Chaudhuri, Don & Maureen Loren, and John & Cindy Smoot.
All Committees Need Volunteers!
Please consider donating some of your time back to our neighborhood.
If you are interested, fill out this

Fall Yard Sale a Success
Our Fall Yard Sale was a rousing success! Warm weather, a good turnout and busy booths all contributed to a great day.
A special “thank you” goes out to Bernadette Johnson, Laurence Emery and Madeleine Galvin for their help with coordinating this popular event. We're looking forward to our Spring Yard Sale in 2017!
Deer Management
Sept 10, 2016 – Feb 25, 2017
Regulated hunting is considered to be the most practical and cost-effective means to control free-ranging deer populations. Since Virginia began tracking hunting injuries in 1959, no bystanders have been injured by an archer hunting deer anywhere in the Commonwealth.

Our annual Halloween 'Trunk-or-Treat' festivities will be held on Saturday, October 29th (Rain date October 30th). The Trunk-or-Treat portion will be from 5:30-6:30. This is where we ask folks from the neighborhood to volunteer to bring their car and decorate it (optional) and bring candy for the kids. We still need more folks to bring their cars/candy and help set up/clean up. If you can help out (setting up prior to the event or providing your car for the trunk or treat), please e-mail Karen at:
[email protected].
A kid-friendly movie will be shown on a 21-ft. screen from 6:45-8:45 p.m. We'll be serving popcorn and water (until it runs out). Make sure to bring your chairs or blankets to sit on!
Croctoberfest at Island Creek Elementary Please join us for the PTA Croctoberfest on Friday, October 21st from 5:30 p.m.-8:30 p.m. You can buy dinner from Red Hot & Blue or enjoy pizza by the slice. We will also have ice cream and baked goods available for purchase.
There will be lots of games, prizes and crafts for all to enjoy, and the dunk tank is back where you can try to dunk Mr. Macrina, Mr. Gross, Mr. Collazo, Mr. T and Ms. Miller! You will also want to relax for a few minutes with our teachers, who will be reading sensory stories throughout the evening. We hope you will join us for this super fun-filled night with the entire school! Trick-or-Treat Tips Halloween (October 31st) falls on a Monday this year and trick-or-treaters are usually out in full force beginning at 6:00 pm. Please remember to drive slowly! Also, turn lights on to welcome trick–or-treaters and turn lights off to signify non-participation.
