Featuring a screening of a rare documentary
The program will feature the screening of a very rare hour-long film with English subtitles which will truly transport the audience to rural Cyprus to discover some unique customs and traditions pertaining to the life of the Cypriot people in the countryside. The film also highlights the centuries-old process of making the famous traditional Cypriot bread.
According to early historians, the Cypriot bread, was not only of exceptional quality but in the 18th century it was also the best found in the entire Levant. The long road leading from wheat to bread is also the path followed by this film, which "reaps" the last opportunities for immortalizing scenes featuring individuals from the Cypriot countryside who for years were involved in traditional cereal-crop cultivation.
This program is under the auspices of the Cyprus Federation of America and it is supported by the Federation of Hellenic Societies of Greater NY. It is sponsored by Arch Capital Group (U.S), the NYC Department of Cultural Affairs, the Cyprus Federation of America and Astoria Federal Savings Bank, Ditmars Branch, Astoria, NY.
