The Southington Public Library Presents
The Simsbury Light Opera Company to perform
Iolanthe or, The Peer and the Peri
Thursday, March 23rd at 7:00 p.m. in the Café

Come to the Library to enjoy the music and humor of one of Gilbert and Sullivan's most famous operettas.

Gilbert and Sullivan were at the height of their creative powers in 1882 when Iolanthe premiered, and many people feel that it is the most perfect of their collaborations.  In the opera, the fairy  Iolanthe  has been banished from fairyland for marrying a mortal. The opera satirizes many aspects of British government, law and society.

Simsbury Light Opera will be performing an abbreviated "concert version" of this delightful Victorian operetta.

Here's a "taste" of Iolanthe as performed by the Stratford Festival in 1988
