Gilbert and Sullivan were at the height of their creative powers in 1882 when
Iolanthe premiered, and many people feel that it is the most perfect of their collaborations.
In the opera, the fairy
has been banished from fairyland for marrying a mortal. The opera satirizes many aspects of British government, law and society.
Simsbury Light Opera will be performing an abbreviated "concert version" of this delightful Victorian operetta.
