FROM THE OFFICE OF STUDENT AFFAIRS:

Detentions/Suspensions:  The last regularly schedule Thursday school detention will be on June 9.  If a student earns demerits that result in a detention after June 9, that detention will be served on exam make-up day, June 15.

Students who accumulate demerits that warrant a suspension after May 15 will be required to serve the suspension time on June 15 and 16.  Written notification of the suspension will be provided to the student and parents.

Final detentions and suspensions must be served before the student will be allowed to return to school in September; for those not returning to CCHS, these obligations must be fulfilled before clearance from the Student Affairs Office is provided.

Uniforms:  Any students who have uniform items they can no longer use are asked to please donate them to the uniform exchange.  We are in need of the sweaters and kilts.

2016-2017 Student Directory:  If you wish to opt-out of the 2016-2017 Student Directory or need to update your contact information, please complete the form and return it to the Student Affairs Office by July 15.  The office will automatically update your child's grade.  The Class of 2016 will be deleted from the directory.

IMPORTANT: TRANSPORTATION ISSUE
For those living in Camden County, we have received information from the Camden County Commission that underscores the issues of transportation. This is a problem in all counties but the following is information from the Commission specifically:

We have approximately 45 nonpublic routes this year. The bus companies renewed 22, which means the rest have to be bid and we hope for responses.  However, the number of students on many of the renewed routes is under the required minimum dollars, meaning they may have to be aided or combined with another route
We are looking at routes again this year and trying to find creative ways to add incentive for the bus companies. One option we are considering is to use a hub/spoke design where we identify satellite pick up locations to reduce the number of stops, which in turn reduces the overall route time making it more cost effective for the bus company. The trade-off is that parents will have to drive their children to the satellite location. Second, we asked the high schools to give us the earliest possible drop off and latest possible pick up times they can tolerate. This option MAY allow for a bus company to add a route to their existing tiers for additional, rather than competing revenue.

Below is a link for an article from the Burlington County Times reporting the issue state-wide about the lack of bus drivers. Please read so you can understand the difficulties behind transportation. The hardships are falling on all schools in all districts.

We will continue to inform you as we receive information. It is important on our end to educate everyone about this process.

STUDENTS VISIT PHILADELPHIA INQUIRER

Communications students and faculty visited the newsroom at the Philadelphia Inquirer last week. They met with editors and Pulitzer Prize winning reporters to learn more about the issues facing journalism and how the Inquirer, Daily News, and Philly.com are adapting.

We have another request for all parents to contact the appropriate legislators on the Senate and Assembly Budget Committees.  This is another attempt to reach as many legislators as possible with our requests for nonpublic funding.  The months of April, May, and early June are crucial to this effort.

Below are the key "asks" of the nonpublic school community re: the Governor's 2016-2017 budget. This message should be sent to the below listed members of the appropriate committees by email:

Dear
I am writing to ask that you restore the 6.8 % nonpublic school reduction in funding in the Governor's Fiscal Year 2017 Budget.  Specifically, I ask that you restore the Nonpublic School Security Aid Program to at least $25.00 per pupil, and that you increase the $884.00 per pupil allotment for Nonpublic School Transportation Aid.  This allotment has been frozen since 2008.  Additionally, please restore Nonpublic School Nursing Service Aid to $94.00 per pupil and Nonpublic School Technology Initiative to $40.00 per pupil. Such increases are greatly needed by nonpublic school students whose parents save the taxpayers of the state of New Jersey a great deal of money each year.
Sincerely,

From the ASSEMBLY BUDGET COMMITTEE:
John J. Burzichelli  (D) Vice-Chair (serves all of Salem County, part of Cumberland County and part of Gloucester County):   [email protected]
Maria Rodriguez-Gregg (R) (serves part of Camden County):  [email protected]
From the SENATE BUDGET AND APPROPRIATIONS COMMITTEE:
Jeff Van Drew (D) (serves parts of Atlantic, Cumberland, and Cape May Counties):  [email protected]

The 2017 State Budget: Eliminated Security Funding, Reduced Nursing & Technology Funds, and Froze Transportation Aid

The Governor is proposing a 6.8% budget cut for non-public schools. Our Students Need Your Voice & Support.   Please Read Below & Act Today! CLICK HERE TO SHOW YOUR SUPPORT
Specifically, the Nonpublic School Security Program was totally eliminated; the per pupil amounts for nursing services and technology were reduced. The per-pupil amount for nonpublic school transportation remained frozen at $884.00 - an amount that has been frozen for nine years.

We need your voice to tell the State Legislators who are on the Budget Committees to restore the funding for the Nonpublic School Security Program and to increase funding for nonpublic nursing services to $94.00 per pupil and nonpublic technology aid to $40.00 per pupil.

You will be directed to the Action Center with two template letters describing the issues. All you have to do is sign the letters. The letters will be directed to the state legislators that serve the district in which you live, according to your zip codes.

IMPORTANT DINING HALL ANNOUNCEMENT
Starting on Monday, May 9th students must have cash or monies in their "myschoolbucks" accounts to buy food during breakfast and lunch. Often times the cashiers in our dining hall allow the students to purchase a lunch even if the student may be short a few cents or dollars. The cashiers keep a log in which they write down the name and how much the student owes. Then they collect the money owed from those students. With the end of the year quickly approaching the cashiers will no longer be able to do this for the students. During the month of June it is recommended that all students use the balance in their myschoolbucks account and then bring cash to purchase food from the dining hall. Thanks for your understanding and cooperation.

All seniors must use their monies on the My School Bucks system. Please have your senior students spend all their money on their cards for lunches in the next few weeks. Any unused monies will not be returned or transferred to a sibling.
