During this festive time, it is important to remember those less fortunate, who may not be able to have a traditional holiday, and the children who may not receive gifts.
Teaching your child about the gift of giving back is invaluable and
will stick with them for a lifetime.
Fortunately, there are plenty of fantastic organizations that give all of us the chance to give back.
Toys for Tots
is one of the most widely known organizations, with
numerous sponsors such as Macy's, Disney, Hess, Build A Bear Workshop and the main contributor,
Toys "R" Us
. These sponsors, along with local businesses, have designated donation boxes where you can leave new and unwrapped toys for children who might not get any gifts otherwise. Coordinators will make sure the toys are distributed to families in need in time for the holidays.
This foundation helps deliver toys and books to families of all denominations with children under the age of twelve.
is another great foundation and is located in the Greater Boston Area.
Globe Santa has several ways to help give back and encourage other kids and their families to get involved as well!
Some of their suggestions include: attending a Globe Santa event, creating their own fundraising event, or by simply sending the link to friends and family in hopes of inspiring them to donate and get involved.
Last but certainly not least is One Warm Coat. This organization emphasizes the belief that all children should have at least one coat to keep them warm during the winter time. You can help by donating a coat or funds to purchase coats. Explaining to your children that not everyone has basic items such as coats will expand their minds and make them more aware and willing to help.
You can't go wrong with any of these organizations and any effort you can put into supporting a child this season will be making an important impact on children in need in your community.
