Stark County Post-Secondary Opportunities Saves Money for Students and Taxpayers

The Center for College Affordability and Productivity (CCAP) found earning college credit in high school potentially saves students and the public money. Students could reduce their college costs by up to 12.5% by earning a semester's worth of college credit while still in high school.[1]  CCAP suggests that for every 1 million students entering college with a semester's worth of early credits, the cost of college could be reduced by over $9.5 billion dollars.

Ohio ranks as ninth among states in terms of higher education debt burden with 69% of students at four-year institutions carrying an average of $29,037 of   school loan debt. The taxpayers,  who subsidize public higher education, receive a high return on investment when high school students earn college credit.

In the 2013-14 school year, 5,577 Stark County students completed 3 credit hour courses or equivalents. The savings estimates for these students taking advantage of post-secondary opportunities is substantial.
